Vail Resorts Revolutionizes Ski Rentals with My Epic Gear Integration
Vail Resorts has today unveiled an ambitious plan to overhaul the traditional ski gear rental process by incorporating advanced features from the My Epic Gear program. This initiative seeks to improve the rental experience for skiers and snowboarders across the company's renowned mountain destinations. My Epic Gear, which was initially introduced as a membership program, is being re-envisioned to be accessible to all rental customers, aiming for a more seamless and personalized approach.
The overhaul will take place over several years, beginning with a focus on expanding and enhancing rental services and technology. By next season, skiers and riders renting Demo skis and snowboards will be able to select their gear from a comprehensive online catalog available across 12 participating resorts. This catalog includes premium gear such as BOA® ski boots, ensuring that renters can take advantage of top-of-the-line technologies and models suited for their specific needs.
With this new initiative, Vail Resorts aims to cater to individual preferences by allowing guests to choose from various gear categories, including Sport, Performance, and Demo rentals. This marks a significant departure from standard rental practices, where customers could feel unsure about the quality or fit of their selected equipment.
In addition to customizing gear selections, Vail Resorts will enhance the pickup and rental fulfillment processes. Customers will now have the option to select how they receive their gear – whether through in-store pickups, slopeside valet service, or even home delivery in subsequent seasons. This streamlined service aims to reduce wait times and improve convenience, allowing guests to focus more on enjoying their skiing experience rather than waiting in lines.
The digital rental experience is also set to improve, with a singular platform that makes it easy for guests to navigate through the booking, management, and selection process. This innovative platform will maintain personalized profiles for users that archive past rentals, favorite gear, and grant tailored recommendations based on individual skiing habits. Furthermore, Vail Resorts is planning to maintain competitive pricing for the rental options, making the transition to this upgraded service as accessible as possible.
The experiences offered through My Epic Gear will eliminate the need for a membership fee for those utilizing the high-performance Demo rentals. Skiers will benefit from the ability to pre-select their preferred gear models prior to their arrival, significantly enhancing the preparation for their skiing adventures. The program will include gear from leading brands such as Salomon, Stockli, Burton, and Rossignol, ensuring that customers have access to the latest innovations in skiing technology.
Rob Katz, CEO of Vail Resorts, expressed his enthusiasm for this initiative, stating, "We learned a great deal from My Epic Gear members over the past two seasons, uniquely positioning us to innovate the gear category and redefine the industry standard for performance, comfort, convenience, and consistency." This statement reflects Vail's commitment to improving the overall skiing experience, setting a new standard in the rental industry.
Starting from the 2026/27 winter season, all rental operations across the affiliated resorts will be rebranded under the My Epic Gear name. This not only signifies a shift in branding but also a commitment to incorporating the curated experiences previously exclusive to members into the broader rental framework. Pricing for rentals will remain reasonable, with additional discounts available for Epic Pass holders.
This progressive shift by Vail Resorts sets a new benchmark for ease and enjoyment in the ski rental process, making advanced gear more accessible to a wider audience and fostering a deep-seated love for skiing across varying skill levels. For those who may not ski frequently, this new approach could encourage them to partake in the sport with confidence and improved access to quality equipment. With the convenience of pre-booking options and tailored gear choices, Vail Resorts is paving the way for a more inclusive and enjoyable skiing experience for everyone. As the winter season approaches, excitement builds around the anticipated changes, reflecting a broader trend within the sports and recreation industry to prioritize customer experience and technological integration.
