Three-Night Free Concert Series at Declaration 250 Celebrating America's 250th Anniversary

Declaration 250: A Celebration of Freedom in Put-in-Bay, Ohio

In a momentous announcement, the Lake Erie Heritage Foundation has unveiled an exciting lineup of musical talent for the upcoming Declaration 250 event. Scheduled to take place from July 31 to August 2, 2026, this three-day national commemoration will feature three iconic performances under the open sky at the Perry's Victory and International Peace Memorial in Put-in-Bay, Ohio. Headlining the free concert series are renowned artists ASIA, Jefferson Starship, and Lee Greenwood, promising an unforgettable experience for attendees.

The Declaration 250 event will honor the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, a significant milestone in American history. While Independence Day on July 4 commemorates the approval of the Declaration by Congress, it was on August 2, 1776, that 56 resolute delegates put pen to paper, all in the name of liberty. This year, the nation turns its eyes to Ohio, where this unique celebration aims to gather Americans from every corner of the country, encouraging them to engage in a symbolic signing of the Declaration once again.

As David Zavagno, the executive director of the Lake Erie Heritage Foundation, articulated, "Declaration 250 is about more than just looking back at history; it’s about embracing the ideals it represents and honoring the values our founding fathers embodied. We invite everyone to join us in Ohio to commemorate not only what our founders declared but also what they were willing to sign for our freedom."

Concert Schedule:

  • - Friday, July 31: Kick off the festival with an electrifying performance by ASIA at 7 PM.
  • - Saturday, August 1: Get ready to rock with Jefferson Starship, also performing at 7 PM.
  • - Sunday, August 2: Conclude the series with a heartfelt performance by Lee Greenwood, celebrating American pride at 7 PM.

Aside from the musical performances, Declaration 250 will highlight a range of engaging activities, including:
  • - America’s National Signing Ceremony, where citizens can participate in a symbolic signing of the Declaration.
  • - Ceremonial performances by the Ohio State University Marching Band and the United States Navy Band.
  • - The United States Army Old Guard Fife and Drum Corps, ensuring a patriotic atmosphere.
  • - The Bristol County Fifes and Drums, and special military ceremonies.
  • - An interactive Freedom Village and Revolutionary War living-history encampments that will transport visitors back in time.
  • - Educational maritime heritage programming.
  • - The grand finale, a spectacular ROCKET 250 fireworks show lighting up the skies over Lake Erie.

This historic event will not only pay homage to America's declared independence but also emphasize the pivotal role Ohio played in preserving that freedom years later during the War of 1812, particularly referencing Commodore Oliver Hazard Perry’s victory in the Battle of Lake Erie.

With the nation’s 250th anniversary on the horizon, Declaration 250 invites all individuals, families, and communities to partake in a celebration of unity, patriotism, and remembrance. Mark your calendars and prepare for a weekend that promises not only great music but also a reaffirmation of the enduring values of freedom and community that this nation holds dear. Join us on the shores of Lake Erie as we celebrate history and what it means to be American!
