Hill's Pet Nutrition Launches 'Welcome Home' Adoption Campaign to Support Shelter Animals

Hill's Pet Nutrition: A New Era in Pet Adoption

In a significant step towards improving the lives of shelter animals, Hill's Pet Nutrition has announced the inauguration of their "Welcome Home" adoption campaign. Set to launch this January, the initiative aims to facilitate the transition of pets from shelters to loving homes by providing substantial financial assistance and nutritional resources.

The campaign aligns closely with Hill's commitment to animal welfare and will be celebrated with a special float at the 2025 Rose Parade, in collaboration with Pasadena Humane. This float symbolizes the joy of pet adoption, marking what Hill's describes as the "best day ever" for both pets and their new owners. Hill's will contribute up to $130,000 to assist with the adoption fees at participating shelters, ensuring that cost will not hinder potential pet owners from making a life-changing decision.

"Adoption is life-changing for shelter pets, which is why we are excited to launch our 'Welcome Home' initiative," said Dr. Karen Shenoy, US Chief Veterinary Officer at Hill's. This statement underscores the urgency of the campaign, particularly as animal shelters are facing overcrowding issues. Data reveals that while fewer pets are being taken in than in previous years, those that do arrive at shelters often remain longer, exacerbating the situation.

The Need for Action

Insights gathered from Shelter Animals Count's 2024 Mid-Year Analysis highlight a pressing concern: animals are increasingly staying in shelters for extended periods. The conventional flow of pets in and out of these facilities has been disrupted, often leading to shelters being over capacity. This poses a critical challenge, particularly at the beginning of the year when intake rates are typically higher. "Hosting a 'Welcome Home' adoption event with Hill's Pet Nutrition at the start of the year allows shelters to proactively manage their capacities," stated Tori Fugate, Director of Communications at Shelter Animals Count.

The adoption drive is designed strategically to encourage families to adopt pets early in the year, creating space for the influx of animals typically expected in the spring months. Hill's aims to partner with 13 suitable shelters around the nation, each offering to cover adoption fees of up to $100 for dog or cat adoptions from January 1 to January 12.

A Healthy Start for New Pets

To ensure newly adopted pets begin their new lives on the best possible foot, Hill's is providing a free starter bag of Hill's Science Diet alongside valuable coupons for future purchases. The shelters involved span across various cities, including:
  • - Austin: Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter
  • - Boston: Animal Rescue League of Boston
  • - Charlotte: Humane Society of Charlotte
  • - Dallas: SPCA of Texas
  • - Houston: Houston SPCA
  • - Kansas City: Great Plains SPCA, Humane Society of Greater Kansas City, and Wayside Waifs
  • - Las Vegas: The Animal Foundation
  • - Pasadena: Pasadena Humane
  • - Philadelphia: ACCT Philly
  • - Raleigh: SPCA of Wake County
  • - Tampa Bay: SPCA Tampa Bay

Each shelter is dedicated to their mission of saving and caring for pets, and through partnerships like this with Hill's, they can provide better support to their residents.

A History of Commitment

With over 75 years of experience in pet nutrition, Hill's Pet Nutrition has a long-standing tradition of supporting animal welfare. Their Food, Shelter & Love program has assisted in facilitating awesome over 15 million pet adoptions since its inception in 2002. The program also emphasizes the importance of scientific-led nutrition in making shelter pets healthy, adoptable, and loved while awaiting their forever homes.

As Dia DuVernet, President & CEO of Pasadena Humane, noted, "The 'Welcome Home' campaign exemplifies Hill's ongoing commitment to aiding dogs and cats in shelters nationwide." The collaboration aims to spread awareness about the urgent need for pet adoption while fostering a loving environment for every adoptable animal.
