Community Unite: Habbas Law and Arteaga's Food Center Aid San Jose's SNAP Recipients During Shutdown

Community Unite: Emergency Grocery Assistance in San Jose

In light of the ongoing government shutdown, a significant number of San Jose residents have found themselves without access to crucial SNAP food benefits. To address this pressing issue, local organizations Habbas Law and Arteaga's Food Center have joined forces to organize an emergency grocery assistance event. This initiative aims to provide vital support to families in need during these challenging times.

On November 9, from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Arteaga's Food Center located at 2620 Alum Rock Ave, San Jose, CA 95116 will host the event, which is set to help those who are struggling to put food on the table. Habbas Law has generously pledged $15,000, complemented by $5,000 from Arteaga's Food Center, to fund this community-driven effort.

How the Grocery Assistance Works

The goal of the event is to distribute groceries to affected households in a straightforward manner. Each household can receive support valued at approximately $100, although this amount may increase based on the generosity of community contributions. To ensure that each family leaves with meaningful nourishment, local food vendors and suppliers will also participate, adding their contributions to the event.

Registration for the grocery vouchers will kick off at 11:00 AM, and as with many community initiatives, it will function on a first-come-first-served basis. Participants seeking assistance need to show proof of either active or recent SNAP benefits, such as an EBT card or a SNAP eligibility letter, alongside a photo ID for verification.

Contributing to the Cause

Individuals wishing to contribute to this community initiative can take part through a GoFundMe campaign aimed at enhancing the efforts to support more households. Every dollar collected will be directed completely toward assisting families in need—there are no intermediary costs or fees, just neighbors rallying together to support each other.

As the organizers point out, this initiative highlights the spirit of community teamwork. "We're starting with $20,000 to ensure families can put food on the table right now. Every dollar added through this GoFundMe will go directly toward helping more households," they stated. Updates on the initiative and detailed instructions for grocery assistance sign-ups will be made available on Instagram via @sanjosefoos.

Important Registration Guidelines

To follow, here’s a quick overview of the registration process:
  • - Sign-up Starts: 11:00 AM at Arteaga's Food Center.

Voucher Regulations

Each household will only receive one voucher, which is non-transferable and cannot be duplicated. All necessary verification processes will be in place to ensure fairness and proper resource distribution. This initiative is strictly privately funded and is not affiliated with any government agency.

Community Commitment

This event showcases the dedication of local partners, including Habbas Law, Arteaga's Food Center, and San Jose Foos, who collectively believe that no one in their city should face hunger due to a government shutdown. The combined effort exemplifies community solidarity and compassion in times of need, reminding everyone of the strength found in collaboration.

Mark your calendars for November 9 and join this vital cause to support families in need. Together, we can ensure everyone has access to food and essentials in times of adversity.
