Hearts 2 Soles: A Collaborative Effort for Foot Care in Indianapolis's Homeless Community
Hearts 2 Soles: A Vital Outreach for Indianapolis' Unhoused Community
In an effort to tackle the significant health challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness, Forté Orthopedic Research Institute has joined forces with the Indianapolis Colts and Wheeler Mission. Together, they launched the annual Hearts 2 Soles event, which emphasizes essential foot health care for the unhoused community of Indianapolis.
The Importance of Foot Health
Foot health is a critical but often overlooked aspect of overall well-being, particularly for those in extreme poverty. Inadequate foot care can lead to serious complications, affecting mobility and quality of life. Individuals without a stable home often lack access to proper footwear and basic foot hygiene, leaving them vulnerable to injuries and infections. The Hearts 2 Soles initiative seeks to raise awareness about these issues while directly addressing them through practical assistance.
A Day of Caring and Support
On December 2, 2025, volunteer physicians from Forté Sports Medicine and Orthopedics will come together to provide free foot exams for over 300 unhoused men. Alongside them, players from the Indianapolis Colts, including wide receiver Ashton Dulin, will be on-site to distribute new socks and shoes, ensuring that attendees leave with better foot health and dignity. Notably, this year’s event is bolstered by the generous contributions of 300 pairs of shoes from Red Wing Shoes and Changing Footprints, along with an equal number of socks from JD Sports and toiletry kits prepared by Meijer.
