The KCJ GROUP, responsible for managing the child-oriented career and social experience facility KidZania in Tokyo, Koshien, and Fukuoka, gathered insights through a recent survey conducted during a special event for students aged 16 and older. With 716 participants, the survey focused on their thoughts regarding future jobs, careers, and the dynamics of domestic responsibilities.

Key Findings on Domestic Responsibilities



One of the survey highlights was the median perceived hourly wage for housework, which stands at 1,600 yen. Respondents expressed that household tasks can be underappreciated, with comments indicating the heavy burden they carry daily. A significant 80.6% of students prefer to share household duties with their partners, in stark contrast to the mere 8.7% willing to take on the majority of household responsibilities themselves. This finding is notable as it reflects an evolving view on gender roles within the domestic sphere; students prioritize a cooperative rather than a divisive system.

Moreover, this preference was consistent across genders, suggesting a collective desire among Gen Z to create partnerships grounded in equality rather than outdated norms where one partner predominantly manages household duties. As discussions around
