Hyundai Hope on Wheels Achieves Over $300 Million in Funding for Pediatric Cancer Research
Hyundai Hope on Wheels: A Legacy of Support and Hope
Hyundai Hope on Wheels®, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit supported by Hyundai Motor America and over 855 U.S. dealerships, recently marked a monumental achievement by surpassing $303 million in total donations allocated to pediatric cancer research. Founded in 1998, this organization has embedded itself in the fight against childhood cancer, demonstrating an unwavering commitment to improving survivorship and advancing critical medical research during its 28 years of operation.
This latest milestone illustrates the deep-seated dedication of Hyundai Hope on Wheels to enhance the survival rates and quality of life for children grappling with cancer. Jose Muñoz, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor Company, emphasized the importance of this financial support by stating, "Three hundred million dollars in lifetime giving represents the children who are alive today because researchers had the resources to find new treatments."
Throughout its nearly three decades in operation, Hyundai Hope on Wheels has seen substantial successes in pediatric oncology, boosting U.S. childhood cancer survival rates from about 75% to over 85%. To date, their efforts have positively affected the lives of more than 40,000 children across the country. Hyundai Hope on Wheels plays a pivotal role not only in funding but also in advocating for childhood cancer research.
Expanding Contributions in 2026
In 2026, Hyundai Hope on Wheels is set to distribute over $29 million in grants in North America, including $26 million within the U.S. and an additional $3 million for Canadian-based research projects. These funds are aimed at innovative research, survivorship initiatives, advocacy, and raising public awareness, all contributing to long-lasting effects for children facing the repercussions of cancer.
Randy Parker, president and CEO of Hyundai Motor North America, commented, "Reaching more than $300 million in lifetime giving is a powerful reflection of what's possible when purpose and partnership come together." He reiterated the organization’s commitment to supporting children battling cancer and fostering groundbreaking research aimed at facilitating their recovery.
Impact through Research and Survivor Support
Hyundai Hope on Wheels has been instrumental in creating progress by investing in pediatric cancer research and advancing survivorship initiatives. With the support of over 175 medical institutions and numerous research programs, the organization has awarded over 1,500 grants to date, ensuring care improvements and enhanced treatment outcomes for young patients.
This year, as part of an expanded focus on survivorship, the organization is advocating for long-term health management, improved emotional well-being, and quality of life for children post-treatment. They aim to provide support not just during the disease phase but throughout recovery and beyond, addressing ongoing health needs and enhancing survivorship equity.
Emerging Leaders: National Youth Ambassadors
Incorporating youth voices into its advocacy, Hyundai Hope on Wheels announced Isabella Franco-Capps—a 10-year-old from Athens, Georgia—as their newest National Youth Ambassador. She will join Jackson Trinh, who serves from 2025 to 2027. Together, they will visit hospitals to raise awareness about the importance of pediatric cancer research. Their stories can be explored further on the Hyundai Hope on Wheels website, illustrating the personal connection that many youth have with this cause.
Grant awards will be officially presented to children's hospitals nationwide later this year, culminating in September during National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. At this event, the organization will also celebrate its 28th anniversary in Washington, D.C., alongside its esteemed partners.
With their extensive history, continued partnerships with local dealers, and steadfast commitment to advancing medical research, Hyundai Hope on Wheels symbolizes hope and resilience in the face of childhood cancer. Their proactive measures and financial contributions pave the way for research that promises to save lives and improve outcomes for future generations.
