TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO Achieves Historic LEED® Gold Certification



In a groundbreaking achievement, TOYOTA ARENA TOKYO has become the first arena facility in Japan to receive the prestigious LEED® BD+C: New Construction v4 Gold certification. This accolade, conferred by the U.S. Green Building Council, highlights the arena’s commitment to environmental sustainability and innovation in building design. Owned by Toyota Real Estate Co., the arena is slated to open in October 2025 in the Aomi area of Tokyo’s Odaiba.

A Commitment to Sustainability


The development of TOYOTA ARENA is rooted in a philosophy of maximizing potential across sports, mobility, and sustainability. The arena aims to create a venue that embodies diverse values and serves as a catalyst for positive change. In this initiative, environmental considerations are among the core pillars guiding both design and operation.

Key Elements of LEED Certification


1. Optimized Energy Performance: The arena incorporates high-efficiency equipment and district heating and cooling systems that are expected to reduce energy costs by 32.3% compared to ASHRAE standards.

2. Renewable Energy Production: With the installation of a large solar power generation system featuring 300 kW capacity on its roof, TOYOTA ARENA is projected to generate over 310 MWh annually, meeting more than 5% of its total energy consumption through renewable sources.

3. Indoor Water Use Reduction: The incorporation of rainwater reuse and reclaimed water systems, along with water-efficient fixtures, has led to an impressive 77.6% reduction in indoor water usage.

4. Open Space and Sustainable Sites: 44% of the site is designated as open space, fostering community interaction, while rainwater management systems help mitigate runoff and utilize rainwater for irrigation.
