Modine's Expansion to Chennai, India
Modine, a global leader in thermal management technology, is set to enhance its manufacturing capabilities by opening a new facility in Chennai, India, in mid-2025. This strategic decision is driven by the surging demand for advanced cooling solutions in the data center industry, which has been escalating due to the rapid growth of high-performance computing and artificial intelligence.
The new site will specifically focus on the production of cooling technologies under the Airedale by Modine brand, catering to various sectors that range from stationary power generation to data centers. This venture follows Modine's recent expansions in Calgary, Canada and Bradford, UK, showcasing the company's commitment to meeting global demands.
Neil D. Brinker, Modine's President and CEO, expressed the importance of this expansion, indicating that it represents a significant step in aligning with major technological trends. Brinker emphasized, "By increasing capacity and establishing production facilities in India, we are in a strong position to provide a range of highly engineered enabling technologies to the data center industry."
India's investment in data centers has accelerated markedly in recent years, aided by a growing economy that drives data demands, availability of skilled labor, and investments in enhanced connectivity to neighboring regions like Africa and the Middle East. Major players in the hyperscale and colocation sectors have already recognized India's potential, leading to increasing investments that necessitate cutting-edge cooling technologies.
Art Laszlo, Modine's Group Vice President for Global Data Centers, articulated the company's long-term vision: "India is a key part of our growth strategy to meet customer demand in India, Asia, and the Middle East. Airedale by Modine invests heavily in research and development to design solutions applicable for all regions. We address the most pressing data center cooling challenges with tailored solutions that extend from the periphery of data center operations to individual racks."
Additionally, Modine is not only addressing data center cooling requirements, but its cooling modules are also designed to enhance the performance and efficiency of stationary power generation units. These units serve as primary and backup power sources while supporting load management within data center campuses. Matthew Powell, Vice President and General Manager for Air-Cooled Applications, shared the outlook for operations, stating, "We're already supplying our customers globally, and this additional capacity expands our manufacturing footprint, preparing us to fulfill new global orders by summer 2025."
This new facility will mark Modine's second manufacturing location in India; their first facility, Modine Thermal Systems India, was established in 2007. That facility has focused on designing and manufacturing cooling modules tailored for off-highway and commercial vehicles, as well as power generation equipment.
As part of Modine's broader mission to engineer cleaner and healthier environments, the upcoming Chennai facility is geared towards high-performance thermal management solutions that improve air quality and conserve natural resources. With over a century of expertise in this domain, Modine continues to innovate and provide essential systems and solutions globally.
In the face of rising global temperatures and evolving energy efficiency demands, Modine's expansion into the Indian market is a timely response to the increasing need for sophisticated cooling technologies that support modern data-driven environments.
