Zillow and eXp Realty Reinforce Commitment to Real Estate Transparency for Consumers
Zillow and eXp Realty Reinforce Commitment to Transparency
In a landmark announcement made on April 10, 2025, Zillow has established new standards focused on enhancing listing transparency in the real estate sector. The initiative marks a significant shift against the ongoing anti-consumer trend of encouraging homeowners to sell properties off-market. Underlining these efforts, eXp Realty, a prominent advocate for transparency and the leading brokerage by transaction volume in the United States, is the first organization to partner with Zillow. This alliance pledges to post listings in the Multiple Listing Service (MLS) within just one day of being marketed to the public, ensuring maximum visibility for potential buyers.
The new standards outlined by Zillow are in line with the National Association of Realtors' Clear Cooperation policy. This mandates that any property publicly marketed to potential buyers must be listed in the MLS and published not only on Zillow, but also across other outlets that receive MLS feeds. The rationale is clear: any listing visible on the internet should be accessible across all platforms that display listings. Should a property fail to comply with these standards, it will not be published on Zillow and its affiliated platforms, including Trulia, for the duration of the listing.
This initiative aims to provide both buyers and agents with equal, timely access to vital real estate information, thereby fostering a more equitable and competitive housing market. Leo Pareja, CEO of eXp Realty, emphasized the importance of protecting consumer rights, stating, "We are committed to ensuring our clients have the most transparent and comprehensive access to property listings available. Our collaboration with Zillow guarantees that every eXp Realty listing features maximum visibility, which in turn fosters a trustworthy and open marketplace for everyone."
Concordantly, Errol Samuelson, chief industry development officer at Zillow, touted the necessity of equitable access, saying, "Sellers desire broader exposure while buyers should have equal access. When all buyers don't have the same opportunities to see listings, it diminishes consumer trust and undermines the marketplace. From its inception, Zillow has aimed to democratize real estate information."
To further amplify these efforts, Zillow and eXp Realty invite other industry players—including brokerages, MLSs, and tech platforms—to adopt transparent practices that prioritize consumer access. As these organizations look to step away from age-old practices of exclusivity, this new approach signals a broadening of horizons in the real estate ecosystem, where every buyer's opportunity is maximized.
Zillow Group continues to reshape the real estate landscape, aiming to align itself with values that promote transparency, access, and equality. With its far-reaching network as the most visited real estate website in the country, Zillow empowers individuals in their search for housing solutions while connecting them with dedicated real estate professionals.
This substantial shift in policy and practice underscores Zillow's significant technological investments aimed not only at enhancing user experience but at lifting the standards of transparency throughout the industry. As the partnership unfolds, both organizations are optimistic about fostering trust and accessibility, upholding their commitment to advancing the principles of fairness and innovation in real estate.
