Vinitaly.USA 2025: Italian Wine Industry Thrives in Chicago Amid Tariff Challenges
Italian Wine Resilience Showcased at Vinitaly.USA 2025 in Chicago
The anticipated event, Vinitaly.USA 2025, is set to unfold on October 5–6 at Navy Pier in Chicago, showcasing the enduring commitment of Italian wineries to the U.S. market, their primary export destination. With nearly 250 wineries and consortia contributing significantly to an estimated turnover of $7 billion, this year's gathering aims to highlight the industry’s resilience in navigating ongoing tariff challenges and market fluctuations.
Organized by Veronafiere-Vinitaly, in collaboration with the Italian Trade Agency and the Italian American Chamber of Commerce of the Midwest, this event serves as a strategic platform where Italian wine producers can engage with U.S. buyers and importers. As noted by Federico Bricolo, President of Veronafiere, the participation reflects a robust commitment from leading Italian wine producers to enhance their presence even amidst a dynamic trading environment. Notable brands participating include Antinori, Famiglia Cotarella, and Ferrari among others, ensuring a diverse representation from regions such as Veneto and Emilia-Romagna.
As the U.S. market shows a steady interest in Italian wines, companies like Mionetto and Villa Sandi will also shine a spotlight on the Prosecco category. The event will welcome a host of American importers including Winebow Fine Wines & Spirits, further signaling the crucial nature of these trade relationships.
Adolfo Rebughini, CEO of Veronafiere, expressed that despite the challenges, the overwhelming participation demonstrates the U.S. interest in Italian wines and the concept of transforming challenges into growth opportunities. The Vinitaly.USA program will include various activities such as wine tastings, a new business forum, and even discussions on wine tourism, emphasizing the integration of quality Italian products into the American lifestyle.
On top of various tasting sessions, which are set to provide insights into market trends and analyses, this event marks the international debut of the Wine2Wine Business Forum—the first of its kind outside Italy. Attendees can expect insightful sessions featuring market analyses and a first look at the selected producers for Vinitaly OperaWine 2026, in partnership with renowned publication Wine Spectator.
Moreover, Vinitaly Tourism will highlight opportunities for wine tourism, supported by Vinitaly International Academy’s professional development sessions. For olive oil enthusiasts, tastings at the SOLExpo Oil Bar will bring additional flavor to the event, emphasizing Italian culinary excellence beyond just wine.
Overall, Vinitaly.USA 2025 is set to be a landmark event in Chicago, solidifying the strong ties between the U.S. and Italy in the wine sector, and showcasing the collective resilience of the Italian wine industry in the face of challenges. As tariffs continue to pose a threat to easy trade, Italian wineries are proving that with strategic engagement and a commitment to quality, they can thrive and inspire future generations of producers and consumers alike. The event promises a vibrant atmosphere filled with networking opportunities, educational sessions, and, of course, an exceptional selection of wines that showcase the rich heritage and innovation within the Italian winemaking tradition.
