Air Premia’s Fleet Expansion and Future Route Plans
Air Premia, recognized as Korea’s foremost hybrid carrier, has recently announced significant updates to its fleet and route strategies. The airline has just welcomed its sixth Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, a notable event marking its first expansion in over a year and a half. This modern aircraft promises to improve both comfort and efficiency for passengers flying with Air Premia.
Fleet Details and Features
The newest addition to Air Premia’s fleet is configured to accommodate a total of 344 passengers. It features 35 premium economy seats with an impressive 46-inch pitch, alongside 309 economy seats that originally had a 31-inch pitch, which will soon be upgraded to 33 inches for enhanced comfort. This is part of Air Premia’s ongoing commitment to provide an exceptional travel experience while maintaining competitive pricing.
The Boeing 787-9 is not only designed for passenger comfort; it is constructed with over 50% carbon composite materials, which significantly boosts fuel efficiency by approximately 20% compared to traditional aircraft. This eco-friendly configuration enables the aircraft to cover long distances, making it ideal for routes exceeding 15,000 kilometers, such as the popular Seoul to New York route. Commercial operations for this new aircraft are set to commence in January 2025.
Upcoming Route Expansions
In addition to enhancing its fleet, Air Premia is on the verge of expanding its route offerings. Currently, the airline services flights to key destinations including Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Tokyo Narita, and Bangkok. As part of its strategic growth plan, Air Premia intends to launch new routes targeting Da Nang and Hong Kong in early 2025, followed by additional services to Honolulu and Seattle.
Seung-shin Park, Head of Public Relations at Air Premia, emphasized the importance of this fleet expansion in supporting the airline’s growth objectives. He stated, "Fleet expansion is crucial for growth in the aviation industry. We are developing a balanced route portfolio to enhance both customer convenience and profitability."
With three additional aircraft planned for delivery in 2025, Air Premia’s total fleet size is projected to reach nine by the end of that year. This growth will facilitate a more extensive network, enabling better connectivity for travelers and optimizing the airline’s operational capacity.
