OMRON Healthcare at ESC Congress 2025
OMRON Healthcare Co., Ltd., recognized globally as the most recommended brand for blood pressure monitors by healthcare professionals, is set to feature prominently at the upcoming ESC Congress 2025, a significant event organized by the European Society of Cardiology. This year's congress will take place from August 29 to September 1 in Madrid, Spain, where OMRON will serve as both exhibitor and sponsor, maintaining its long-standing relationship with this vital gathering of the global cardiology community.
During the congress, OMRON Healthcare plans to host a satellite symposium titled "Unveiling the Hidden Threat: Recognising Undiagnosed Heart Failure in Women." This session is scheduled for August 29 at 15:15 and will feature insights from leading experts including Alta Schutte from Australia's George Institute for Global Health, Eva Gerdts from the University of Bergen in Norway, and Renate B. Schnabel from the University Heart and Vascular Centre Hamburg in Germany.
Despite cardiovascular disease being the leading cause of death among women worldwide, it remains significantly underdiagnosed and undertreated, primarily due to entrenched biases that affect research, treatment protocols, and even clinical recognition of symptoms. A revealing 2023 study conducted by OMRON Healthcare in Japan uncovered that half of the women surveyed reported early warning signs like palpitations or shortness of breath. Alarmingly, many dismissed these symptoms, assuming they were merely signs of menopause and chose not to seek medical attention.
This lack of awareness poses a serious risk, as another finding from the same study indicated that even among those aware of atrial fibrillation (AFib)—a common type of arrhythmia characterized by symptoms such as palpitations and increased risk of stroke—most respondents were not cognizant of the grave implications of the condition or the necessity for early detection and appropriate treatment.
To combat these critical challenges, OMRON Healthcare advocates for regular self-measurement practices using their blood pressure monitors, which can connect with the OMRON connect app to help analyze trends and share data with healthcare providers. The forthcoming event will also showcase a new line of upper-arm blood pressure monitors featuring an AI-powered algorithm, aimed at enhancing early diagnosis capabilities across their product range.
"We are excited to return to ESC Congress this year," expressed Karen Benegmos-Sanders, Managing Director for OMRON Healthcare Europe. "By leading discussions on critical cardiovascular issues at our symposium and providing a preview of our innovative upper-arm BPM series, we hope to drive significant improvements in heart health outcomes through increased awareness and at-home monitoring techniques."
