Huawei Partners with UNESCO and JA Solar for Green Education Project in Thailand

Huawei, JA Solar, UNESCO Launch Green Education Project in Thailand

In a significant step towards sustainability, Huawei, in collaboration with JA Solar and UNESCO, has officially launched the Green Education Project in Thailand. This initiative, supported under Huawei's TECH4ALL program, focuses on nurturing the next generation of students equipped with green skills and digital empowerment.

At the heart of this project is the integration of clean energy solutions into educational facilities. Over the next few years, the initiative will see the implementation of Information and Communications Technology (ICT) training and renewable energy installations in eleven schools and community centers across Thailand. This project aims to address educational and energy challenges, particularly in underserved rural areas.

During the opening ceremony held on December 3rd at the newly established solar-powered roof of the Learning Encouragement Center in Nakhon Nayok, Huawei Thailand's CEO David Li highlighted the project's transformative potential. He noted, “The Green Education Project is more than a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative; it is a long-term investment in Thailand's youth and future.” Li emphasized the objective of combining practical training in clean energy solutions with education to create a model that fosters sustainable growth and inclusivity.

The project serves as a catalyst for addressing fundamental challenges in education and energy sectors by providing local communities with renewable energy systems and enhancing technical skills. Through its first recipients, the initiative is set to equip students and community members with essential digital and technical skills in renewable energy and sustainability.

The Learning Encouragement Center in Banna District, a key beneficiary, will offer free training on green energy and digital literacy aimed at bridging skills gaps in underserved regions. Likewise, the Kanchanapisek Vocational Education College in Nong Chok will utilize donated photovoltaic (PV) systems to teach installation, maintenance, and operations, thus imparting valuable skills for future employment to its students.

Local educators have welcomed the Green Education Project enthusiastically. Tisakorn Klinbooppha, Director of the Banna District Learning Encouragement Center, stated, “This project is a powerful example of how collaboration between global enterprises and local schools can create meaningful change. The donated solar energy equipment will provide our students with hands-on experience in the installation and maintenance of renewable energy systems, giving them a competitive edge in the job market.”

Project Framework
The Green Education Project is guided by three main components:
1. Green Schools for Secondary Education: This component will establish rooftop solar energy systems at secondary schools while providing training for teachers and students on the benefits and workings of green energy.
2. Green Schools for Vocational Education: Aimed at technical schools, this section seeks to empower students with practical experience in working with photovoltaic systems, preparing them for careers in the increasingly important renewable energy sector.
3. Green Communities: Supported by Huawei's Digital Bus, this element will enhance public libraries and learning encouragement centers with renewable energy and cybersecurity education, alongside mobile digital training programs.

The Digital Bus initiative has already provided free training to students in Nakhon Nayok on topics such as green energy, cybercrime awareness, and telecommunications. Thus far, it has reached ten remote provinces in Thailand, equipping 4,500 students with knowledge and skills for a sustainable future.

Thailand's push towards renewable energy aligns with the government’s goals to modernize education and empower students with future-ready skills. As a partner in the TECH4ALL project, JA Solar is devoted to supporting Thailand’s energy transformation while empowering students with hands-on knowledge and fostering meaningful change within communities.

Looking ahead, Huawei, JA Solar, and their partners plan to expand the project's reach, encouraging more organizations to join their mission of empowering the next generation with the skills and tools necessary to build a sustainable society in Thailand.
