In Response Theatre Festival: A Platform for Change
The In Response Theatre Festival, presented by Towne Street Theatre (TST), is set to return to the Stella Adler Academy of Acting and Theatre in Hollywood from October 4 to November 2, 2025. Now in its seventh year, the festival continues its tradition of empowering artists to use their voices in addressing pressing social issues through various performing arts mediums, including plays, films, music, and poetry.
This year's theme,
RISE UP!, is especially timely, inviting writers, directors, and actors to create impactful narratives that reflect the state of our society. As Veronica McClelland, CEO of TST, eloquently puts it, “In Response takes the news of our times straight from our streets and our screens and builds awareness and activism so that people feel empowered to make change.” This encapsulates the spirit of the festival, emphasizing the role of the performing arts in advocating for human rights and personal freedoms.
A Collection of Diverse Performances
The festival showcases a mix of performances that range from poignant dramas that explore historical events to comedies that provide much-needed levity. Participants can expect thought-provoking narratives that not only entertain but also prompt reflection and conversation on issues affecting democracy and societal well-being. The festival aims to create an inclusive environment that resonates with audience members, allowing them to connect with the stories told on stage.
Scheduled performances include
film nights on Thursdays, with plays from
Fridays to Sundays at 8 PM, and additional Sunday matinees at 3 PM. Notably, there will be no performances on Halloween to accommodate community celebrations and ensure that families can partake in festive activities.
The Importance of Community Participation
In Response Theatre Festival emphasizes the significance of community involvement in the arts. By providing a platform for both emerging and established voices, TST plays a vital role in fostering a vibrant artistic scene in Los Angeles. The festival encourages audience members to engage with the narratives, share their thoughts, and reflect on their own experiences in relation to the themes presented. This open exchange is critical in nurturing a dialogue around societal challenges and inspires individuals to take action in their communities.
