Lincoln Memorial University Celebrates New Health Campus Opening in Orange Park, Florida

Lincoln Memorial University Expands Health Sciences Education in Florida

Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) has reached an exciting milestone with the upcoming grand opening of its Orange Park campus, set for March 23, 2026. This new facility is an important addition to LMU’s commitment to advancing health sciences education in Florida, particularly in the fields of medicine and veterinary studies.

A Vision for the Future

The Orange Park campus spans 12 acres and includes around 130,000 square feet of educational space across two buildings. It will be home to both the LMU-DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine (LMU-DCOM) and the LMU-College of Veterinary Medicine at Orange Park (LMU-OPCVM), welcoming its first cohorts of students in 2026. This expansion reflects LMU's dedication to meeting the growing healthcare demands in the region and enhancing the quality of education provided to future healthcare professionals.

LMU President Dr. Jason McConnell shared, "The Orange Park campus stands as a significant advancement for us at Lincoln Memorial University, symbolizing our commitment to health care education in Florida. We focus on preparing skilled and compassionate physicians and veterinarians to serve communities in need, emphasizing the crucial connection between human and animal health."

Addressing Health Care Challenges

The establishment of LMU-DCOM as the first four-year medical school in Northeast Florida is particularly noteworthy. The curriculum promises to emphasize primary care and community-based training, areas where Florida has faced ongoing physician shortages, especially in underserved rural areas. Dr. James Toldi, the campus dean for LMU-DCOM at Orange Park, stated, "The new campus aims to bolster the physician pipeline by fostering partnerships with local health systems and practitioners, ensuring that our graduates are well-prepared for the evolving healthcare landscape in the region."

Since its inception in 2007, LMU-DCOM has awarded nearly 3,000 Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degrees, contributing significantly to the medical workforce across various specialties. The majority of its alumni practice in primary care or serve in other critical roles in underserved communities, showcasing the institution's focus on addressing healthcare disparities.

A New Era for Veterinary Education

The launching of the LMU-College of Veterinary Medicine at Orange Park (LMU-OPCVM) also embodies a crucial development in veterinary education in Florida. This three-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine program is designed to fast-track career readiness, offering early and continual clinical interactions and a collaborative learning environment. Dean Dr. Kim Carney emphasized, "We aspire to train veterinarians who will not only excel in their individual practices but will also understand and lead at the intersection of animal, human, and environmental health."

LMU-OPCVM has strategically formed connections with local organizations, such as the Jacksonville Humane Society and Clay County Animal Services, to provide students with real-world experience and enhance community wellbeing through better animal health resources.

Grand Opening Celebration

The grand opening of the Orange Park campus will be commemorated with a formal ribbon-cutting ceremony on March 23, 2026, at 10:30 a.m., marking a significant moment in LMU's growth. The event is invitation-only, but media representatives are encouraged to attend, highlighting the importance of this educational facility in the community.
