Skoll Foundation Announces 2026 Social Innovation Award Winners

In a groundbreaking announcement, the Skoll Foundation revealed the recipients of the 2026 Skoll Award for Social Innovation. The prestigious award, which grants a total of $2 million, has been awarded to three outstanding organizations: ChildLife Foundation, SmartStart, and Indus Action. Each organization is making significant strides in solving critical social issues, showcasing innovative strategies and community engagement to propel social change.

The Skoll Award for Social Innovation recognizes organizations that are tackling some of the world's most pressing problems. This year’s winners exemplify leadership in not only addressing these issues but doing so in a sustainable manner that encourages further development. The award celebration will take place during the 23rd Annual Skoll World Forum, set to occur from April 21 to April 24, 2026, in Oxford, UK. An award ceremony is scheduled for April 23rd and will be streamed live, allowing a global audience to witness the impactful contributions of these leaders.

Meet the Awardees

ChildLife Foundation

Operating in Pakistan, the ChildLife Foundation confronts one of the highest child mortality rates in the world. With nearly 1,000 children dying daily from treatable illnesses such as pneumonia, their mission is life-saving. They are working closely with government entities to rehabilitate and manage pediatric emergency care within public hospitals, using modern facilities and well-trained teams to ensure optimal care for children. The ChildLife 24/7 Telemedicine Network connects over 300 district hospitals with pediatric specialists, covering 90% of the population. Their extensive efforts have already led to a tenfold decrease in child mortality rates in their managed emergency departments.

Indus Action

India sees an enormous investment of approximately $150 billion annually in over 5,000 social protection schemes; however, a staggering number of eligible citizens remain unable to access the benefits they are entitled to due to complex bureaucratic processes. Indus Action aims to resolve this issue through a tripartite approach: enhancing governance capabilities, employing technology to create open and citizen-centered solutions, and integrating research to improve service delivery systems. With a vision to connect 30 million citizens to their rightful benefits by 2030, their work ensures access to education, healthcare, and financial programs, breaking cycles of poverty.

SmartStart

In South Africa, over a million children aged 3 to 5 lack access to quality early childhood care and education, perpetuating socio-economic disparities. SmartStart addresses this gap by enabling underemployed community members to convert their living spaces into licensed early learning facilities. By providing training, resources, and support for compliance, SmartStart makes quality early education both affordable and community-run. Their network currently includes 15,000 programs, reaching 160,000 children weekly, and is gradually expanding to serve one million children by 2030.
