Allegiant Air Pilots Celebrate New Two-Year Agreement with Major Benefits

Allegiant Air Pilots Secure a New Collective Bargaining Agreement

In a significant development for the aviation sector, nearly 1,300 Allegiant Air pilots, represented by Teamsters Local 2118, have voted overwhelmingly to approve a new collective bargaining agreement. With about 99% of eligible pilots participating in the voting process, roughly 80% endorsed the new contract, marking a pivotal moment for the pilots and the airline.

This new agreement promises substantial improvements in various aspects of the pilots' working conditions and compensation. As per the details of the contract, pilots will receive an average hourly wage increase of nearly 40% immediately, with expectations of reaching a total wage increase of about 54% by January 2027. Furthermore, this significant wage escalation will also trigger the disbursement of approximately $300 million in accrued retention bonuses for the Allegiant pilots, a vital step that underscores the union’s strength and unity.

Ryan Joseph, President of Teamsters Local 2118, emphasized that this agreement is a leap forward for the pilots, enhancing not just their wages but also providing better retirement benefits and improved overall working conditions. He expressed confidence that the contract positions the pilot group advantageously as they prepare for future negotiations concerning joint collective bargaining and seniority list integration.

The new contract introduces several critical provisions aimed at ensuring the pilots' well-being and job security. Among these are a direct company-funded 401(k) contribution of 15%, company-paid long-term disability coverage until the age of 65, and a five-hour minimum pay guarantee for each flight duty period. Additionally, the agreement expands protections for leave and increases premium pay for various assignments, including voluntary flights and junior assignments.

Scheduling protections are another key aspect of the new agreement. The pilots will now enjoy minimum days-off guarantees and safeguards during fleet transitions and potential displacements. Furthermore, specific furlough protections linked to scheduling efficiencies have been established, aiming to shield the pilots during any operational downturns.

Dave Saucedo, Director of the Teamsters Airline Division, heralded the ratification as a major victory for the Allegiant pilots nationwide. He recognized the pilots' tenacity and solidarity throughout the negotiation process, reaffirming their collective strength in achieving the necessary improvements to their working environment. The agreement is expected to offer the pilots leverage and the momentum required to defend their careers, seniority, and future prospects effectively.

As Teamsters Local 2118 now prepares to focus on joint collective bargaining along with seniority list integration, the commitment to uphold and protect the pilots’ rights, careers, and working conditions remains paramount. This new contract not only addresses immediate concerns but also lays a robust foundation for future negotiations and the ongoing evolution of pilot labor relations.
