12th World Congress on High-Speed Rail Held in Beijing

From July 8-11, 2025, Beijing welcomed over 2,000 participants from more than 60 countries to the 12th World Congress on High-Speed Rail. Co-organized by China State Railway Group Co., Ltd. (CR) and the International Union of Railways (UIC), this year's theme was "High-Speed Rail: Innovations and Development for Improved Quality of Life". The event gathered esteemed government representatives, diplomats, business leaders, experts, and scholars.

The Congress served as a global platform to present achievements in high-speed rail technology and foster industrial collaboration. It featured two rounds of roundtable discussions and 30 technical sessions, allowing over 200 senior executives and experts to share their innovative solutions. More than 700 articles were submitted from participants representing 27 nations, bridging new ideas and perspectives on high-speed rail development globally. The simultaneous Modern Railways 2025 exhibition attracted 521 companies from 14 countries, showcasing advanced technologies and cutting-edge equipment like intelligent drone control systems.

Among the highlights were innovative train models, including the CR450 Fuxing EMU and magnetic trains. The exhibition displayed over 30,000 exhibits and attracted more than 72,000 visitors, providing insights into the future of high-speed rail technology. Notably, the event culminated in CR signing cooperation agreements with railway groups from France, Spain, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Belarus, Laos, Malaysia, and more.

Promoting railway science and engaging with rail enthusiasts were also focal points of the conference, coupled with technical tours to promote high-speed rail culture and foster mutual exchange of knowledge and experiences. With a rail network of 48,000 kilometers, China boasts over 70% of the world's high-speed rail infrastructure. The Fuxing EMU trains can reach operational speeds of up to 350 km/h, serving more than 16 million passengers daily. Notably, over 22.9 billion passengers have traveled on the EMUs, showcasing the extensive reach and efficiency of China's rail system.

China has taken a leading role in developing all 13 international system standards within the UIC framework, significantly contributing to global railway technology advancement. This Congress illuminated the remarkable growth and the pivotal role of high-speed rail in enhancing the quality of life and connectivity worldwide.

Through collaborative dialogues and exchanges of cutting-edge innovations, the event set the stage for a forward-looking agenda in high-speed rail, emphasizing the need for sustainable growth and technological advancement on an international scale.
