Stephen Gill's Exhibition to Showcase Unique Artistic Exploration at Art Cruise Gallery
Stephen Gill's upcoming exhibition, titled "Stephen Gill," is set to be launched on September 11, 2026, at the Art Cruise Gallery in Toranomon, Tokyo. This will mark the 14th exhibition at the gallery, operated by Baycrew’s Co., Ltd., headed by Chairman Shigeru Sugimura. The exhibition promises to be a captivating exploration of the boundaries between photography, nature, and serendipity based on Gill's extensive body of work.
Gill’s approach to photography has evolved significantly over the years. Rather than merely capturing the world, he perceives photography as a collaborative process that creates images in conjunction with the environment. His project, "Hackney Flowers," exemplifies this philosophy—combining photographs taken in East London’s Hackney with flowers and seeds gathered from the same area, and even burying them to symbolize the interplay of time and place within the creative process.
Another notable work, "Talking to Ants," further illustrates his innovative techniques. Gill introduces chance into his work by letting the plants and insects he finds during his shoots enter the camera, resulting in unintentional shadows and traces that become part of the final imagery. Meanwhile, in "Please Notify the Sun," he undertakes an extraordinary exploration by immersing himself inside a fish, creating a multi-layered narrative that blurs the lines between observer and subject.

Osamu Ouchi is an art director, graphic designer, and scenographer born in 1971. A graduate of Tama Art University, he studied under the late Kazunobu Tanaka and later founded Nanogra Graphics in 2003. His work revolves around synergizing flat and spatial elements, and he has handled various projects including photo books, art publications, and exhibition planning across Japan and abroad. He also serves as the producer of the "Matsumoto Architecture and Art Festival" and as an associate producer at the Matsumoto City Museum, highlighting his commitment to promoting the arts.
