VinFast's Debut in Europe: Overcoming Electric Vehicle Doubts and Challenges

VinFast's Entry into the European Electric Vehicle Market

VinFast, the Vietnamese automotive leader, is making waves with its entry into the European electric vehicle (EV) market. Despite the initial skepticism surrounding electric vehicles, a shift in consumer sentiment is becoming evident. Many individuals who have yet to experience the benefits of EVs often express worries about range, charging infrastructure, and overall costs. In contrast, those who have made the leap to electric driving generally report high levels of satisfaction and rarely contemplate reverting to traditional combustion vehicles. This growing gap between pre-purchase anxiety and post-purchase contentment is a crucial indicator for the European automotive landscape.

The Shift in Consumer Attitudes

Recent surveys highlight this trend vividly. A study conducted by Chargemap in Spring 2025 gathered responses from nearly 20,000 electric vehicle users across nine European nations, including France, Germany, Italy, Spain, and the UK. Astonishingly, 88% of respondents indicated they were either satisfied or very satisfied with their EV driving and charging experiences. Furthermore, a global survey by the Global EV Drivers Alliance (GEVA) revealed that 92% of over 23,000 electric vehicle owners across 18 countries would choose an electric vehicle again, with only 1% considering a return to gasoline or diesel cars.

In the United Kingdom, a Zap-Map survey painted a similar picture: while 92% of pure electric vehicle drivers reported being very satisfied, only 74% of gasoline and diesel drivers could say the same. The consensus among those who have transitioned to electric vehicles is clear: once experienced, the benefits of EVs often outweigh initial apprehensions.

Daily Driving Experience Matters

This heightened satisfaction among electric vehicle drivers does not stem from flashy features; rather, it is influenced significantly by their daily driving experience. According to a recent Petronas study, driving enjoyment scored an impressive 8.39 out of 10, while charging times received a more modest score of 7.7. European drivers have come to appreciate the unique driving sensation that electric vehicles provide, yet they still seek improvements in everyday comfort.

Further reinforcement of this sentiment emerged from a study by Driveco and Harris Interactive in France, which documented a stark contrast between the hesitance of non-users and the enthusiastic satisfaction among current electric vehicle owners. One persistent challenge, however, is access affordability, which remains a significant barrier.

VinFast’s Pragmatic Approach

Recognizing these market dynamics, VinFast has adopted a pragmatic approach to its European launch. The EV market is evolving, moving from early adopters to the mainstream consumers, making efficiency, design, and affordability essential elements of transformation. The VinFast VF 6—its compact electric SUV—is tailored for urban environments and daily commutes, where usability and convenience take priority. This vehicle offers a practical route to electric mobility for European drivers.

Expanding Beyond Personal Vehicles

The excitement of electrification extends beyond individual drivers; it encompasses public transport as well. The European regulatory framework encourages cities to establish zero-emission bus fleets, and VinFast is responding with its electric buses, the EB 8 and EB 12. Notably, the EB 12 has secured complete European certification, marking a pivotal step that demonstrates compliance with stringent regional standards while affirming VinFast's capability to deliver vehicles suited to local infrastructure requirements. Public transport operators are looking for certified, reliable suppliers ready to provide immediate delivery, and VinFast is positioning itself as a solution provider in this aspect as well.

Building Trust Through Service

VinFast understands that in Europe, owning a vehicle is only part of the customer promise. The crucial components include maintenance, assistance, and warranty services. To solidify its presence, VinFast is establishing local commercial operations through partnerships with dealerships and service providers throughout the region. This partnership-based distribution model is a deliberate choice that aligns VinFast's products and technological prowess with the local expertise of established partners who understand their markets, customers, and compliance regulations.

As a result, drivers benefit from nearby service options, while fleet managers enjoy support that ensures vehicle availability. For VinFast, it's about cultivating a reliable, growing relationship in every market it enters.

A Long-Term Commitment to Electric Mobility

VinFast's strategy in Europe is long-term, designed not for swift growth but for sustainable presence. Competitive electric cars, certified electric buses, and a robust network of after-sales support aim to meet and continue to exceed the expectations of European consumers. The shift towards electric mobility across Europe is gaining momentum, and for both individual drivers and cities, the pressing question is no longer whether to go electric, but rather which brand to rely on in the future.

VinFast intends to become that trusted brand, providing well-designed, accessible electric vehicles on European roads, complemented by the service and support the region's consumers rightfully expect.
