Rondo Energy and EDP to Launch Groundbreaking Heat Battery for HEINEKEN

Rondo Energy and EDP: Innovating with a 100 MWh Heat Battery for HEINEKEN

In a collaborative effort aimed at sustainability and energy efficiency, Rondo Energy and EDP have signed a landmark partnership with HEINEKEN to deploy a 100 MWh Rondo Heat Battery (RHB) at the Central de Cervejas e Bebidas Brewery in Portugal. This remarkable installation is on track to become the largest heat battery in the beverage industry, providing renewable steam to HEINEKEN's brewing processes around the clock.

The Technology Behind the Rondo Heat Battery

The Rondo Heat Battery serves as an innovative solution capable of charging with intermittent electricity, which is typically sourced from renewable energy. It stores this energy as high-temperature heat, thus allowing it to deliver safe, zero-carbon steam for 24 hours a day. Designed to significantly cut down on reliance on fossil fuel boilers, this system will provide 7 MWs of steam through a combination of on-site solar power and grid electricity, showcasing a fresh approach to renewable energy in industrial settings.

A Step Towards Decarbonization
