Centalion and Komgo Bring Agentic AI into Live Treasury Operations
On October 14, 2026, Centalion Group, one of the largest independent commodity trading companies worldwide, announced an exciting collaboration with Komgo, a leader in digital trade finance platforms. This partnership aims to revolutionize treasury operations through the integration of an Agentic AI developed specifically for managing trade financing instruments.
The AI-treasury agent operates within Centalion's cloud environment, interfacing seamlessly with Komgo's console via the Model Context Protocol (MCP) connector. This integration allows treasury professionals to execute workflows using natural language, while upholding all necessary governance measures and retaining human oversight in decision-making processes.
Prior to this innovation, the treasury team at Centalion faced challenges in managing workflows across multiple systems to retrieve data, verify information, and receive status updates on trade finance activities. To address this, Centalion decided to construct and implement the AI agent that leverages a large language model combined with structured treasury workflows and specific business rules.
In its initial deployment, the AI agent has already demonstrated remarkable efficiency improvements in handling Centalion’s syndicated facility for off-balance sheet instruments. Specifically, the time taken for reissuance transactions has decreased by approximately 55%, while changes have seen an 80% reduction in processing time. As the AI agent is further developed and expanded to include the entire spectrum of Centalion's trade finance activities, it is projected to unlock over 60 workdays worth of treasury capacity each year. This time can now be redirected towards vital tasks like risk monitoring and optimizing financing strategies.
Olivier Thevenon, Treasury Manager at Centalion, emphasized the transformative nature of this AI integration: “We didn’t want to simply create another chatbot. Our objective was to change the way our treasury team interacts with the technical infrastructure. The agent can comprehend instructions, apply our rules, and prepare transactions swiftly. Importantly, the final decision-making rests with our treasury team, showcasing the true potential of agent-based AI in the finance department of a commodity trader.”
Meanwhile, Baptiste Audren, Chief Revenue Officer at Komgo, commented on the significance of this innovation. He stated that it exemplifies how corporate treasury teams can develop and manage their own AI capabilities upon a trusted structured trade finance infrastructure, reinforcing the collaboration rather than replacing existing systems.
Centalion continues to leverage Komgo's console as the central platform for managing its off-balance sheet instruments with banking partners and finds the integration of Agentic AI not only beneficial but also essential to enhancing its operational efficiency.
