Banza Becomes One of the First Brands to Achieve Detox Project's CleanScan Certification

Banza Achieves Detox Project's CleanScan Certification

Banza, the innovative company known for introducing chickpea pasta to the United States, has recently announced a significant milestone: it is among the first brands to earn The Detox Project's prestigious CleanScan certification. This noteworthy achievement reflects Banza's dedication to food safety and transparency, as the certification assures consumers that their products have undergone rigorous testing for glyphosate and over 400 pesticides.

The CleanScan certification stands out in the food industry. By using a QR code on their packaging, consumers can now easily access comprehensive test results, allowing them to see exactly what is—and what isn't—in their food. This level of transparency is vital for health-conscious consumers, who are increasingly demanding to know more about the products they consume.

Brian Rudolph, Banza's co-founder and CEO, emphasized the importance of this certification by stating, "People deserve to know exactly what's in their food. CleanScan raises the bar by giving consumers direct access to our test results for glyphosate and over 400 pesticides. We’re proud to be at the forefront of this type of transparency." This commitment to clarity is further reinforced by Banza’s strong partnerships with farming operations; all have pledged to avoid the use of desiccants, like glyphosate, during the harvesting process, ensuring the chickpeas that end up in their pasta are free from such harmful chemicals.

Henry Rowlands, the founder of The Detox Project, lauded Banza's efforts, stating, "Banza is leading the way toward cleaner food and a more transparent food system. By joining the CleanScan program, they're showing that brands can meet the moment and give consumers the transparency they're demanding and deserve."

All of Banza's products, including its popular chickpea pasta, mac and cheese, and pizza, as well as its newly launched brown rice products, now carry the CleanScan certification. Notably, the CleanScan requirements exceed the current safety standards, ensuring non-detectable levels of pesticide residues on final packaged products. For glyphosate, the certification mandates detection levels below 0.01 parts per million (ppm). For context, the European Union's allowable limit is 10.0 ppm, and in the United States, it’s set at 8.0 ppm.

As consumers increasingly shop for safety, the CleanScan seal will be a more significant presence on shelves. Banza's products can now be found at retailers such as Whole Foods, Costco, Target, and Wegmans, making it easier for consumers to choose confidently.

Since its inception in 2014, Banza has consistently aimed to inspire a shift toward healthier eating habits through its chickpea-based products. The company revolutionized the pasta category with the introduction of the first chickpea pasta and continues to hold its position as a frontrunner in the better-for-you segment, now ranking as the #1 better-for-you pasta brand and the #5 overall pasta brand in the U.S.

With over 27,000 retail locations and a growing online presence, Banza is paving the way for healthier comfort foods that cater to the needs of health-conscious consumers. This certification change solidifies Banza’s commitment to promoting healthier eating practices and environmental stewardship, making it an example for other brands aiming for similar transparency in the food industry.
