The American Kennel Club's New Partnership Eases International Pedigree Registrations
Enhancing Global Canine Standards: AKC and COBA
In a landmark development for dog enthusiasts and breeders alike, the American Kennel Club (AKC) has announced its approval to accept pedigrees from the Canine Owners and Breeders Association (COBA) of Nigeria. This significant move is part of AKC's Foreign Registration Program, reinforcing its mission to promote the health and welfare of dogs globally.
The AKC, renowned as the world's largest registry for purebred dogs, has maintained a steadfast commitment not only to uphold the standards of dog breeding but also to advocate for responsible ownership. This partnership with COBA, which was established in 2019 as Nigeria's official dog registry, marks a considerable advancement in international canine relationship development.
Gina M. DiNardo, President and CEO of AKC, expressed pride in this collaboration, highlighting the shared mission between the two organizations. “Collaborating with respected registries around the world enhances our commitment to ensure a bright future for all dogs. Together, we aim to elevate education and opportunity for breeders and owners,” she stated, emphasizing the collaborative spirit promoting canine health.
COBA represents more than 5,000 members across Nigeria and plays a crucial role in supervising dog sports and events within the country. Hosting around ten major shows annually, including breed specialty shows and regional competitions, COBA is dedicated to fostering a community of responsible dog ownership while promoting the welfare of all breeding practices.
Dr. Olakunle Sowunmi, the President of COBA, expressed immense gratitude for this recognition from AKC, framing it as a proud milestone for Nigeria's canine community.
