Miracle League of the Triangle Opens Its 38th Season
The Miracle League of the Triangle is set to launch its 38th season from March 18th to March 22nd this year. This nonprofit organization is dedicated to providing children and adults with special needs the opportunity to enjoy the game of baseball. The league's motto emphasizes inclusion and support, making it a cherished community experience for many.
Opening day will see games held at three fully accessible fields located in the Triangle area: Cary's HWY 55 Foundation Field, North Raleigh's Fred Smith Company Field, and Durham's Durham Bulls Miracle League Park. Each venue has been customized to ensure it is accommodating for players with varying abilities—featuring facilities designed for wheelchair users and those with disabilities. The fields boast ample handicap parking, easy access restrooms, and space for families to cheer on their players.
Benjy Capps, Executive Director of Miracle League of the Triangle, expressed excitement about kicking off the new season. He stated, "We look forward to welcoming our players, their families, and our volunteers back again for another great season." The involvement of dedicated volunteer coaches and buddies plays a crucial role in creating a fun and safe environment for approximately 650 players from the special needs community.
The Miracle League operates with a unique philosophy called 'Everybody Wins.' The league promotes a non-competitive playing format, ensuring that each player has the chance to experience the thrill of batting and scoring. Each athlete is paired with a buddy, who provides one-on-one assistance both on and off the field, contributing to an environment that encourages interaction and friendship.
Coach Gideon Adams remarked, "The Miracle League allows players and their families not only the participation in the simple game of baseball but also grants them participation in life."
Demand for volunteers remains high, as over 3,000 volunteers are needed across Cary, North Raleigh, and Durham to assist players and coaching staff. This requirement speaks volumes about the community's spirit and commitment to support individuals with special needs.
The league spans eight weeks and is funded entirely through grants and donations, illustrating the importance of community involvement in sustaining this vital organization. For those interested in contributing to this noble cause, donations can be made through their official website at
