Market Enterprise Showcases Used Agricultural Machinery at Sabasaba Expo in Tanzania

Market Enterprise Participates in Sabasaba Expo 2023

Market Enterprise, a leading provider of used agricultural machinery based in Tokyo, completed an exhibition at the "Sabasaba" International Trade Fair held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from June 28 to July 13, 2025. This fair is Tanzania's largest trade event, and Market Enterprise was there to assess the needs of the Tanzanian agricultural sector and explore business opportunities.

Exhibition Booth Overview

Acknowledging the importance of economic independence and agricultural development in Tanzania, Market Enterprise proposed a plan to the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the 2024 Small and Medium-sized Enterprise (SME) and SDGs Business Support Project. The proposal aimed at enhancing the export of used agricultural machinery was accepted, and the company is now probing the potential for sustained business growth in Tanzania's agriculture sector.

During the Sabasaba trade fair, the company set up a dedicated booth showcasing used tractors. Approximately 4,000 visitors attended, with many expressing interest in the displayed tractors and cultivators. Attendees engaged keenly, inquiring about the benefits and applications of the used machinery offered by Market Enterprise. Notably, Shigeki Komatsubara from the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) visited the exhibition towards the end of the event, further underscoring the fair's significance.

In conjunction with the exhibition, Market Enterprise also visited local businesses and farms to evaluate the maintenance systems and gather insights on local challenges. These efforts were crucial in understanding the operational context of Tanzanian agriculture and addressing existing gaps in support services.

Future Prospects

The participation in the Sabasaba Expo has opened new distribution channels within Tanzania. The company plans to continue conducting needs assessments crucial for establishing a stable export framework. By addressing labor shortages and low productivity levels within the agricultural sector through the export of used machinery, Market Enterprise aims to contribute positively to Tanzania's agricultural landscape. In the long run, the company is also considering expansion into neighboring East African countries, reinforcing their commitment to agricultural development and fostering sustainable practices both within Japan and across developing regions in Africa.

About Sabasaba

It is widely recognized as the largest trade show in the country, typically attracting around 200,000 visitors from both local and international contexts. The name "Sabasaba" derives from the Swahili word for the number seven, reflecting its significance around the date of July 7 known as “Sabasaba Day.” This event serves as a vital platform for various sectors, including agriculture, trade, and local industries.
