CPKC Achieves Historic Grain Transportation Milestones in North America

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) has announced remarkable achievements in transporting grain and grain products during September 2026, setting new records across both Canada and the United States. As the first and only single-line transnational railway linking these two countries along with Mexico, CPKC plays a crucial role in the grain supply chain spanning North America.

In Canada, CPKC successfully transported 2.94 million metric tonnes (MMT) and managed 30,324 carloads of grain in September alone. This marked the second consecutive record month as the company kicks off the 2026-2027 crop year. More impressively, the third quarter of 2026 has proven to be historic, with significant increases in both carloads and metric tonnes.

Meanwhile, in the United States, CPKC also broke records, moving 2.51 MMT and a total of 26,236 carloads of grain in September. The quarter's totals for the U.S. have echoed CPKC's Canadian achievements, setting new benchmarks for carloads and tonnes transported. Combining both countries' results, the statistics present a staggering record of efficiency and service, outperforming previous achievements set back in 2020.

Elizabeth Hucker, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Bulk at CPKC, emphasized the company's commitment to service excellence, stating, "These new records reflect the collective effort of CPKC railroaders, our customers, and those across the grain supply chain, all working together with a shared commitment to service, safety, and execution." This statement highlights not only the quantitative achievements of the company but also the collaborative spirit that sustains its operations.

As part of its strategic objectives, CPKC had previously released its 2026-2027 Grain Service Outlook Report on July 31, 2026, which outlines its intent to maintain a high standard of safe and reliable service through the upcoming crop year. The report is readily available online, further demonstrating CPKC's transparency and dedication to service improvement.

As of Week 8 of the crop year, CPKC has transported over 4.99 MMT and 51,268 carloads of Canadian grain and grain products. This sustained performance reinforces CPKC's pivotal role in the agricultural sector and its commitment to meeting the growing demands of its customers through innovative transportation solutions.

Located in Calgary, Alberta, CPKC operates a vast network of approximately 20,000 route miles, employing around 20,000 railroaders. This extensive reach allows CPKC to provide superior rail service and logistical expertise across North America, creating unparalleled access to major ports from Vancouver through Atlantic Canada to the Gulf Coast and down to Lázaro Cárdenas in Mexico.

CPKC not only emphasizes transportation reliability but also seeks to support its customers comprehensively by offering advanced logistics solutions and supply chain insights. As such, CPKC continually adapts to the evolving landscape of grain transportation, working closely with supply chain partners to enhance operational efficiency.
