Tokyo Bay Innovation Field: A Call for Participants
The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is leading the Tokyo Bay e-SG Project, aimed at creating a sustainable urban model for the future. Leveraging the central breakwater area and other locations, the project has rolled out 23 cutting-edge initiatives since its inception in FY2022, continuing through FY2025.
In FY2028, the initiative will evolve into the "Tokyo Bay Innovation Field," designed to provide a flexible testing ground for various businesses aiming to implement advanced technologies. This new project will include around 20 field-provide type initiatives that support product development from prototype testing to improvements on existing products, alongside approximately three project-support type initiatives that engage with societal implementations in the surrounding bay area.
This comprehensive approach expands the bay area as a broad innovation field, accelerating the social deployment of cutting-edge technologies through collaboration between startups and large enterprises.
1. Field-Provide Type Initiatives
(1) Recruitment Overview
Participants will be invited to develop new technologies aimed at societal implementation across a range of areas including zero emissions (including heat countermeasures) and circular economies.
(2) Support Menu
- - Temporary Use Type: Designed for short-term technical verification, such as mobility test drives, with an expected duration of about one week.
- - Permanent Installation Type: Supports machinery verification aimed at long-term data acquisition, such as CO₂ capture devices, lasting up to a year.
(3) Expected Number of Selections
Approximately 20 initiatives will be selected.
(4) Eligibility Criteria
Consortiums with at least two participants are preferred, although startups established for less than 10 years may apply alone. Participation in the Tokyo Bay e-SG Partner program is mandatory.
(5) Implementation Area
The central breakwater area will serve as the primary venue for the initiatives.
2. Project-Support Type Initiatives
(1) Recruitment Overview
Projects that contribute to facilitating zero emissions and circular economies in the bay area will be considered. The focus will be on three technology areas: "Next-generation Mobility & Robotics," "Cutting-edge Renewable Energy," and "Environmental Improvement & Resource Circulation."
Applications comprising multiple technology areas are also welcome.
(2) Expected Number of Selections
About three initiatives are anticipated for selection.
(3) Eligibility Criteria
Consortiums comprising relevant stakeholders advancing societal project implementation, such as technology developers and businesses planning to utilize products or services, are needed. It is necessary to include at least one startup established for fewer than 10 years in the consortium.
(4) Implementation Area
Initiatives will be implemented in the central breakwater area and surrounding bay areas.
(5) Subsidy Target Period
Funding will be available from FY2028 to the end of FY2030.
(6) Subsidy Amount
The maximum subsidy for one initiative will be 80 million yen for a single fiscal year.
