EVA Air Partners with Industry Leaders to Cut Carbon Emissions by 15,000 Metric Tons

EVA Air's Commitment to Sustainable Aviation

EVA Air has taken a significant step towards sustainable aviation by signing a Memorandum of Understanding with AIT Worldwide Logistics, Microsoft, and Formosa Petrochemical Corporation (FPCC). This partnership is set to advance EVA Air's Green Transportation Program, with an ambitious goal of delivering approximately 15,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent (CO₂e) emissions reductions over the next two years, specifically targeting Scope 3 emissions linked to air transportation.

Collaboration for a Greener Future

The collaboration seeks to integrate sustainability into the aviation and logistics sectors, where companies from diverse backgrounds come together to share resources and expertise. During the signing ceremony, key representatives acknowledged their mission to achieve net-zero aviation, emphasizing that this objective cannot be attained by any entity alone. Instead, it requires a unified effort across the entire aviation value chain, from airlines and fuel suppliers to logistics providers and corporate customers.

The flights in this collaboration will utilize Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) produced from used cooking oil, supplied by FPCC. This innovative fuel, which has received certification under the International Sustainability and Carbon Certification (ISCC) system, promises an impressive 80% reduction in lifecycle greenhouse gas emissions compared to traditional jet fuel. The environmental attributes of the SAF will be documented and managed via the ISCC Credit Transfer System (CTS), facilitating tracking and accountability for the Scope 3 emissions reductions claimed by Microsoft.

Microsoft’s Carbon Commitment

Microsoft has been at the forefront of sustainability initiatives, with a commitment to becoming carbon negative by 2030. This partnership not only aligns with Microsoft's environmental goals but also showcases how dedicated investments in sustainable fuel solutions can spur the adoption of SAF and foster the development of Taiwan’s SAF market. Such collaborations are pivotal for promoting sustainable supply chain practices across the aviation sector.

In recent years, EVA Air has made significant strides in its SAF strategy, regularly incorporating SAF into flights to and from major markets such as Asia, Europe, and North America. The airline has entered into a five-year agreement with FPCC to procure SAF, further solidifying its commitment to environmental stewardship. Through this initiative, EVA Air aims to guide corporate customers and freight forwarders in understanding the carbon implications of air transportation and assist them in achieving their own decarbonization targets using SAF.

Aiming for Industry-Wide Collaboration

EVA Air, in collaboration with AIT Worldwide Logistics and Microsoft, seeks to create a repeatable and scalable model for others in the industry. According to Clay Sun, President of EVA Air, “Achieving net-zero aviation requires collaboration across the entire value chain—from airlines and fuel suppliers to logistics providers and corporate customers.” This partnership exemplifies how aligning customer demand with industry expertise can expedite advancements in the SAF sector.

AIT’s Chief Strategy Officer, Greg Weigel, highlighted the importance of such collaborations, stating, “As we continue to ship large volumes of essential cargo, our trust in EVA Air remains strong, rooted in long-standing relationships. By collaborating with industry giants like Microsoft and local SAF producer FPCC, we hope to influence the market positively.”

The signing of the MOU involved multiple key figures, including representatives from Taiwan’s Civil Aviation Administration, Microsoft Taiwan, and executives from the collaborating organizations. This collection of industry leaders underscores a comprehensive approach to achieving decarbonization in the aviation sector.

Sustaining Environmental Initiatives

EVA Air's commitment to sustainability extends beyond this collaboration. The airline has been participating in the SP Global Corporate Sustainability Assessment since 2021 and has appeared in The Sustainability Yearbook for five consecutive years. In May 2026, it was recognized as the only Taiwanese airline to be included in the Dow Jones Best-in-Class Emerging Markets Index, highlighting its efforts in sustainability governance and decarbonization.

Looking forward, EVA Air plans to broaden its use of SAF, enhance operational efficiencies, and strengthen partnerships with suppliers and customers to expedite the industry's shift towards net-zero emissions. The airline aims to create long-term value through sustainable growth, ensuring that eco-friendly practices become standard in global supply chains.

In summary, EVA Air's strategic collaboration with AIT Worldwide Logistics, Microsoft, and FPCC marks a significant milestone in the aviation industry’s pursuit of sustainability. As the demand for greener transportation solutions grows, this partnership is set to serve as a catalyst for broader changes in the sector, exemplifying the power of cooperation in overcoming environmental challenges.
