Understanding Aging Signs in Women: Insights from a Survey of 1,000 Participants

As October arrives, the cumulative damage from summer UV rays combined with the autumn's dryness makes aging signs more pronounced. This seasonal transition has prompted SHOKO, a renowned beauty expert and the Managing Director of the Beauty Conscious Concierge Association, to conduct a nationwide survey among 1,000 women aged between 40 and 59. The research focuses on the realities of aging in women's faces and hair, providing valuable insights into their changing beauty concerns.

Survey Overview

Period: September 29, 2025
Methodology: Internet-based questionnaire
Participants: 1,000 women aged 40-59 across the nation, with each age group represented by 250 individuals

Key Findings

The survey results emphasized a clear distinction between the aging concerns faced by women in their 40s and those in their 50s.
  • - In their 40s, women primarily noticed nasolabial folds, along with the emergence of spots and wrinkles.
  • - By their 50s, issues such as hair thinning, lack of shine, deep-set wrinkles, and sagging became more apparent, marking an escalation in noticeable aging effects.
  • - The shift in focus from superficial concerns to changes in hair and facial contours demonstrates an evolution in how aging affects women's self-perception.

Age-Specific Concerns

In the survey, when asked about specific aging features, 35.2% of women in their 40s reported that they had noticeable nasolabial folds extending from their nostrils to the corners of their mouths. Additionally, 28.8% mentioned the presence of crow's feet, while 28.6% noted spots or blemishes on their left cheek. Sagging beneath the chin was reported by 22.4%, and 17.4% recognized the development of lines around the mouth. Interestingly, over a quarter (27.0%) stated they had no notable aging signs.
Conversely, over a third (35.4%) of women in their 50s reported significant hair loss and a lack of vitality in their hair. Also noted were deep nasolabial folds (32.6%) and marionette lines (31.4%), which highlighted that their wrinkles and sagging had intensified compared to the previous decade. Other changes included darker shadows under the eyes (28.0%) and noticeable puffiness (26.0%), reflecting the increasing concern over facial contours and shadows due to sagging.

Addressing the Causes of Aging

The appearance of what some consider a 'disappointing face' often leads women to try various creams and makeup to cover these signs. However, external treatments might not address the underlying issues effectively, which can be viewed through the lens of traditional Eastern medicine as
