Stena RoRo Welcomes the New RoRo Vessel Stena Shipper to Their Expanding Fleet
Stena RoRo Expands Fleet with New Vessel
In a significant move for its expansion, Stena RoRo has officially taken delivery of the RoRo vessel previously known as the Giuseppe Lucchesi. This acquisition marks an exciting milestone for the company as it aims to boost its operational capacity and market presence. Following the purchase, the ship will be rebranded as the Stena Shipper and will operate under the Danish flag.
This transition not only represents growth for Stena RoRo but also comes with a strategic contract takeover involving the Tunisian shipping firm Cotunav. The ship will serve on the Rades to Marseille route, enhancing service offerings in the region. The vessel was sold by CIN (Compagnia Italiana di Navigazione S.p.A), part of the Moby Lines group, demonstrating a robust investment in maritime transport.
The Stena Shipper, constructed in 2012 at Odense Yard in Denmark, boasts impressive specifications. With a length of 193 meters, a draught of 7 meters, and a beam of 26 meters, this ship has been designed with cargo efficiency in mind. It provides a capacity of 3,663 length meters, distributed across four decks, and a cruising speed of 21 knots, making it a formidable addition to Stena RoRo’s fleet.
Per Westling, Managing Director of Stena RoRo, expressed enthusiasm regarding this acquisition, emphasizing its commitment to broadening their fleet and offerings. He stated, "This acquisition is part of our continuing expansion of our fleet, broadening our offering and strengthening our position in the market." His comments reflect Stena RoRo's dedication to enhancing its operational capacity and improving environmental characteristics, as the ship also features low fuel consumption.
Stena RoRo has been a pioneer in developing innovative marine transport solutions since its inception in 1977. Specializing in customized vessels, the company has made significant advancements in RoRo, cargo, and passenger transport concepts. The recent addition of the Stena Shipper will allow Stena RoRo to cater to evolving customer needs and maintain a competitive edge in the industry.
The acquisition aligns with the company’s principle of "Stenability," which involves utilizing their technical expertise for the design and production of both new vessels and the enhancement of existing ones. This commitment is exemplified by their role in the creation of the Global Mercy, the world’s largest civilian hospital ship, which came to fruition in 2021.
As Stena RoRo continues to enhance its fleet and operational footprint, the company remains positioned at the forefront of marine transportation, ready to meet and exceed the demands of a dynamic market.
