Chery Group Pioneers Sustainable Mobility Through Global ESG Initiatives

As the automotive sector transitions into a new era, Chery Group is at the forefront, championing sustainability and collaboration through its global Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. No longer a fringe concept, ESG has become integral to shaping industry practices worldwide, particularly in leading markets like the EU, where evolving regulations necessitate new roles for automakers—from mere vehicle manufacturers to active participants in the mobility ecosystem.

Chery is pioneering this transition globally by embedding ESG into its core strategies, reflecting a commitment to responsible growth. With a presence in over 120 countries, Chery has shifted from conventional product exportation to engaging in cultural and lifestyle co-creation, aiming to cultivate a sustainable global community. This ambitious vision was exemplified during the 2025 Chery International User Summit, covering critical themes like net-zero transitions, responsible supply chain management, localized operations, ecological conservation, child development, and talent nurturing, thus establishing a model of shared sustainability and trust.

Among the notable highlights of the summit was the introduction of the Global ESG Advisory Group, chaired by Ban Ki-moon, the Eighth Secretary-General of the United Nations. Accompanying him were various experts from global sustainability organizations and industry partners, who collectively aim to reinforce Chery's leadership in the establishment of ESG standards.

To translate its sustainability vision into reality, Chery showcased innovations at the Eco-Exhibition’s Technology Zone. The display featured the groundbreaking Chery Super Hybrid (CSH) Platform and SNA Architecture, with detailed cutaway models demonstrating advanced chassis and body technologies. Alongside these innovations, Chery presented its next-generation hybrid engine, notable for its superior thermal efficiency, hydrogen engines, fuel cell systems, and diverse electrification solutions, including hybrids, electric vehicles (EVs), and extended-range powertrains. This initiative clearly illustrates Chery’s staunch dedication to achieving net-zero emissions.

Furthermore, Chery has adopted Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) across its supply chain, integrating circular economy principles into its product lifecycle. This includes establishing a global battery recycling network and implementing zero-deforestation tracing systems within its operations. Chery views innovation as the key driver of transformation—concerning not only performance but also minimizing the carbon footprint throughout each product’s life cycle.

The commitment to sustainability manifested itself during the “Ride Green Life” cycling event, attended by nearly 3,000 participants who collectively demonstrated the essence of sustainable mobility. During this event, low-carbon checkpoints recorded a cumulative reduction of approximately 50,000 kg of CO₂, symbolizing the unified effort toward Chery’s environmental commitment.

In addition to its environmental initiatives, Chery has a robust approach to social responsibility, exemplified by its partnership with UNICEF. At the summit, Chery announced a renewed three-year commitment of $6 million, ensuring support for UNICEF’s global education programs. Since 2023, the partnership has had a significant impact, reaching nearly 40 million children, including 17 million in emergency situations, helping them access quality education.

Governance plays a fundamental role in Chery's strategy as it navigates the complexities of digital transformation. The company has prioritized compliance with European data regulations by publishing the Chery Overseas Data Compliance White Paper, serving as a comprehensive guide from strategic concepts to practical applications. By taking such pioneering steps, Chery is positioning itself as a leader in global standard-setting within the automotive sector.

By embracing a philosophy of “In somewhere, For somewhere, Be somewhere,” Chery actively engages with local communities through job creation, philanthropy, and cultural initiatives. Its collaboration with EV MOTORS in Spain revitalized the iconic EBRO brand while providing employment opportunities and boosting the local economy.

Chery’s commitment to sustainability has not gone unnoticed; it has been recognized multiple times on the Fortune ESG Impact List and was the only Chinese automaker featured in Forbes' Sustainability Ranking, underscoring its integration of sustainability into its core business practices. Chery balances innovation with responsibility, short-term achievements with long-term objectives, and business development with social progress, paving a sustainable path toward a collaborative future.

In this transformative landscape, Chery is not just carving out a sustainable path but is paving the way for the future—where innovations benefit the environment, decisions reflect societal needs, and footprints nurture localized growth and collaboration. The automotive industry stands united on this shared journey, where the distinction between business and social value blurs, creating an inclusive community of partners with no finish lines, only new beginnings.
