On October 20, 2025, HD Hyundai made a landmark announcement regarding its leadership structure, promoting Executive Vice Chairman Chung Kisun to the position of Chairman. Chung Kisun's journey within HD Hyundai is noteworthy, as he has been with the company since 2009, starting in the Corporate Planning Division's Finance Team. Over the years, he has held key roles such as Head of Management Support and Head of Ship Sales at HD Hyundai Heavy Industries, contributing to the growth and development of these sectors.

With a strong educational background that includes a bachelor’s degree in Economics from Yonsei University and an MBA from Stanford University, Chung brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new position. In his previous role as Executive Vice Chairman, he played a pivotal role in establishing HD Hyundai Marine Solution in 2016, significantly enhancing its market position which now boasts a valuation of approximately KRW 11 trillion.

In addition to his responsibilities at HD Hyundai, Chung is now also Co-CEO of HD Hyundai XiteSolution, where he will tackle recent downturns in the construction equipment industry, aiming to create new growth avenues through innovative solutions. Under his guidance, HD Hyundai has not only expanded its influence in shipbuilding but has also begun to venture into cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence and digital transformation.

Chung's strategic oversight includes enhancing collaboration with U.S. entities to rejuvenate the shipbuilding sector, a vital aspect of HD Hyundai's operational strategy given the emerging economic dynamics. This collaborative effort is expected to align with the Korea–U.S. Shipbuilding Cooperation Project, further contributing to both the local economy and broader national interests.
