Introducing the Innovative SP300 Injection Molding Machine for PET Preforms

Launch of the SP300 Injection Molding Machine

Sumitomo Heavy Industries, headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo, has unveiled its new injection molding machine, the SP300, designed specifically for medium-scale production of PET bottle preforms. This innovative machine will be available for purchase starting March 19, 2026. The addition of the SP300 to the existing product lineup, which includes the SE-EV-S-HD and SP500E models, allows for tailored equipment solutions based on customer needs and production capacities.

SP300 Specifications

The SP300 comes equipped with a clamping force of 3,000 kN and utilizes a screw pre-plastification method, enabling it to produce between 48 to 72 preforms in a single shot. This positions it strategically between the SE-EV-S-HD model, which can produce 24 to 48 preforms, and the SP500E that ranges from 96 to 144.

Key Features of the SP300

Proven Molding Stability

The SP300 inherits the proven mechanics from our flagship SE-EV-S model, employing the same screw design found in the highly productive SP500E. This ensures reliable and stable molding performance.
  • - Double Center Press Platen: Our unique technology disseminates clamping force uniformly across the mold, reducing defects like burrs that typically occur at the mold's center. This feature guarantees high-quality outputs, even during the production of numerous preforms.
  • - PET-specific Screws: Engineered for high-cycle molding, these screws ensure reliable processing of recycled PET materials under the same conditions as virgin materials.

Enhanced Energy Efficiency through Electrification

Utilizing electric mechanisms throughout various components, the SP300 significantly reduces unnecessary energy consumption while enhancing precision. The clamping system uses energy only when necessary, and the injection unit employs a servo motor-driven pump that engages only at required intervals for accumulator pressurization. This advanced control system makes the SP300 the first in its category to adopt a servo pump method, paving the way for energy-efficient operations.

Comprehensive Support System from Ramp-Up to Operation

By integrating domestically manufactured specialized molds with dedicated take-out equipment, we can offer a complete system proposal that minimizes setup times and facilitates seamless production initiation. Post-launch, we maintain a robust domestic support system for prompt parts supply, service, and technical consultations, ensuring consistent long-term operation for clients.
  • - SP-Evo Series Molds: Our specially designed molds for PET resins have increased temperature control points in the hot runner manifold. This feature prevents carbonization and weight variation that often occur during extended operations, accommodating various production conditions.
  • - PZ-2200 Take-Out Machine: Developed in collaboration with Star Seiki Co., this unit features a water-cooled take-off plate and internal cooling capabilities for the preforms. This innovative mechanism allows for the removal of preforms at elevated temperatures, subsequently cooling them within the take-out machine, which effectively shortens the molding cycle time.
