Allison Transmission to Equip Poland's Borsuk IFV with Advanced 3040 MX™ Technology

Poland Chooses Allison 3040 MX™ for Borsuk IFV

In a landmark agreement, Allison Transmission, a frontrunner in vehicle propulsion technology, has been selected to provide its state-of-the-art 3040 MX™ cross-drive transmissions for Poland's innovative Borsuk Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) program. This deal underscores the growing relationship between Allison and Poland's defense sector, following a Memorandum of Understanding established in 2023 aimed at enhancing cooperation in the development of tracked vehicle technologies.

The Borsuk IFV represents a significant advancement in Poland's military capabilities. This amphibious vehicle, designed to replace the aging BWP-1, showcases the nation's commitment to modernizing its armed forces. It operates with a three-member crew and is expected to support various military operations in diverse terrains, thanks to its amphibious design.

Allison's 3040 MX™ transmission is regarded for its reliability and performance, critical in military applications where robustness is a requirement. According to Dana Pittard, Vice President of Defense Programs at Allison Transmission, this product promises to deliver enhanced maneuverability, fuel efficiency, and operational effectiveness—key aspects essential for the Borsuk IFV's mission profile. The transmission offers impressive capabilities including high-speed reverse and integrated steering, advancements that will significantly improve tactical operations on the battlefield.

Built on the foundation of Allison's proven X300 propulsion system, which has successfully powered the European CV90 and Warrior IFVs for over three decades, the 3040 MX™ incorporates advanced electronic controls and integrated diagnostics. These enhancements improve the operational reliability of the transmission, ultimately benefiting the combat readiness of the Borsuk IFV.

Production of the Borsuk vehicles will be spearheaded by Huta Stalowa Wola (HSW), a subsidiary of the Polish Armaments Group (PGZ). With a production target of up to 1,400 tracked vehicles anticipated over the next 10-15 years, this partnership marks a critical step for both Allison and the Polish defense industry.

Testing of prototype Borsuk vehicles has been ongoing since 2017, reflecting a strategic approach by the Polish Ministry of Defense to validate the vehicle's capabilities before full-scale production.

The integration of the Allison 3040 MX™ transmission within the Borsuk IFV enhances Poland's defense capabilities at a time when ground combat performance is paramount. This agreement not only fortifies Allison's footprint in Europe but also exemplifies Poland's dedication to self-reliance in defense manufacturing.

As Allison Transmission continues to strengthen its partnerships globally, it remains dedicated to delivering innovative propulsion solutions that improve military efficacy and meet the needs of modern defense forces.
