China Tourism Group Showcases Sustainable Tourism Initiatives at Travelogue of China Media Tour
China Tourism Group Highlights Sustainable Initiatives
In late November, an international media tour kicked off the Travelogue of China event, organized by the China Tourism Group (CTG), in beautiful Huzhou, Zhejiang Province. The primary focus was on showcasing sustainable tourism initiatives, aligning with global trends in eco-friendliness and environmental conservation.
The first stop for the media delegation was the CTG Anji Hele Valley, a stunning example of what motivated conservation efforts can achieve. Designed under the principle of minimal intervention, the valley pays homage to the motto “clear waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.” This philosophy is reflected in its construction and landscaping, which prioritize environmental harmony.
Li Jian, the General Manager of Hong Kong CTS (Anji) Tourism Development Co. Ltd, explained that the design employed eco-friendly technologies to minimize environmental impact. The infrastructure, including paths and roads, was constructed to avoid disruption to the local ecosystem, notably tea plantations and bamboo forests. Li noted, “Visitors can immerse themselves in nature without causing it harm.”
As the delegation moved to Qiandao Lake in Hangzhou, they witnessed the successful integration of environmental protection within tourism development. Wei Hong, Deputy General Manager of CTG (Zhejiang) Qiandao Lake Company, shared insights into the area's significance, stating, “This picturesque area attracts two million tourists each year, supporting the local economy and job creation.” He further explained that multiple generations of locals have participated in building and maintaining this national holiday destination, enriching their community while ensuring economic viability.
One journalist, Aiperi Temirova from NEWS.KG, expressed her admiration for the lake's preservation, noting, “It’s striking to see how deeply the community cares for its environment and the positive impact it has on local livelihood.” Meanwhile, Ecaterina Reveaco, an editor at the Moldovan newspaper Noi.md, echoed the sentiment, saying, “I definitely want to return to China with my friends and family to explore all these beautiful places.”
The media tour not only highlighted the remarkable achievements of Zhejiang in ecological civilization and green transition but also encouraged participants to share their experiences through news platforms and social media, offering a genuine and holistic portrayal of China’s sustainable tourism efforts. By presenting its progressive strategies, the tour effectively showcased China's commitment to environmental conservation and sustainable development on a global stage.
Through events like this, the China Tourism Group is setting a precedent for other tourism bodies worldwide, emphasizing that tourism can be both profitable and environmentally conscious. The balance between development and preservation may seem daunting, but the initiatives witnessed during the tour suggest it's not only possible but achievable. This forms an encouraging message for those advocating for sustainable practices in tourism today.
