Viettel Expands Global Footprint with Investment in Dominican Republic's Telecom Sector
Viettel Expands Its Reach to the Dominican Republic
In a significant move to establish its presence in the Caribbean, Viettel Group, one of Vietnam's largest telecommunications and technology companies, is set to invest in the Dominican Republic’s telecommunications market. With over two decades of experience in international telecom, Viettel aims to bring advanced technological infrastructure and digital solutions to the region, marking a new chapter in its global expansion strategy.
A New Telecommunications Frontier
The Dominican Republic is Viettel's 11th international market, following its established operations in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. The recent spectrum award from the Dominican Institute of Telecommunications (INDOTEL) not only allows Viettel access to 240 MHz of spectrum across various frequency bands but also paves the way for the introduction of modern 4G and 5G networks in the region. The spectrum covers significant bands including 700 MHz, 2.3 GHz, and 3.6 GHz, which are crucial for the deployment of contemporary telecommunications infrastructure.
Commitment to Long-Term Growth
Viettel's strategic investment plan includes building extensive telecommunications infrastructure that prioritizes connectivity even in underserved and remote areas of the Dominican Republic. This focus aligns with the country's growing demand for high-speed internet and digital services, both of which are essential for supporting local consumers and businesses in a rapidly digitalizing world.
Tao Duc Thang, Chairman and CEO of Viettel Group, stated, “With more than two decades of international experience, we pursue a long-term investment approach focused on building modern infrastructure, introducing advanced technologies, and creating sustainable value for people, businesses, and local economies.” This reaffirms Viettel's commitment to not only investing financially but also bringing sustainable development to the region.
Proven Track Record of Success
Viettel's international operations generated an impressive USD 3.34 billion in revenue in 2025, reflecting a 23.9 percent year-on-year growth. Furthermore, the company has received significant recognition in the international business community, being awarded the highest number of accolades at the 2026 International Business Awards, including 21 awards linked to its overseas ventures. Such achievements underline Viettel's capability and commitment to excellence in telecommunications.
The entry into the Dominican Republic aligns with Viettel's long-term vision and showcases its ambition to become a leader in the telecommunications sector across different regions of the world. By investing in state-of-the-art technology and infrastructure, Viettel is not only enhancing its portfolio but also contributing to the economic and digital development of the Dominican Republic.
Looking Ahead
As Viettel prepares to sign the concession agreement within the stipulated 90 days, it also takes essential steps to establish its local entity. The company's initiatives will focus on enhancing access to digital services, fostering a comprehensive ecosystem that supports both consumers and businesses alike. Viettel's endeavor in the Dominican Republic signifies a remarkable opportunity to bridge the digital divide, bringing advanced telecommunications services to a nation poised for growth. This strategic expansion not only cements Viettel's international presence but also emphasizes the potential for transformative change within the Dominican telecommunications landscape.
