The City Bakery Opens in Fukuoka with Unique Grill Concept

A Slice of New York in Fukuoka

On July 18th, The City Bakery embarks on an exciting culinary adventure in Fukuoka, Japan, marking its first-ever venture in the area. Located in the vibrant Canal City Hakata's Grand Building, the restaurant spreads across a generous 80 tsubo (approx. 264 square meters) and offers a lively atmosphere highlighted by the shimmering canal views. This new establishment combines a bar, grill, bakery, and cafe, catering to a diverse range of dining experiences—from casual counter seating to cozy sofas ideal for larger groups.

A Culinary Journey

The City Bakery has always been about embracing fresh ingredients, and in this location, the focus is on the abundant local produce of Kyushu. With breakfast commencing at 8 AM, patrons can fuel their day with offerings like the classic "CB Breakfast" priced at 1,200 JPY (1,320 JPY including tax), deliciously sweet-and-savory French toast at 1,100 JPY (1,210 JPY with tax), or a hotdog made with Aso natural pork sausage for 600 JPY (660 JPY tax included).

Lunch Delights

Lunch is where the chefs truly shine, starting at 11 AM with a variety of impressive one-plate menus. Highlights include the standout "Pretzel Croissant Burger"—a flavorful combination of Wagyu beef patty and rich buttery pretzel croissant—priced at 1,800 JPY (1,980 JPY with tax). Another fan favorite is the hearty "Chikappa Katsu Sandwich" for 1,500 JPY (1,650 JPY with tax), alongside the indulgent "Double Cheeseburger" at 1,600 JPY (1,760 JPY with tax). The menu celebrates generous portions and American-style dining, designed for hungry patrons looking to relish their meals.

Dinner Experience

As night falls, The City Bakery transforms into a vibrant dining experience, serving up a menu rich in flavor and style. Guests can enjoy a variety of sharing plates that beautifully combine Kyushu's fresh seafood, meats, and vegetables, all prepared on the grill. Standout dishes include the "Kyushu Tomato Pork Grill with SK Sauce" at 2,700 JPY (2,970 JPY with tax), crispy potato salad with mentaiko mayonnaise for 700 JPY (770 JPY with tax), and a unique Napolitan pasta topped with a fried egg for 900 JPY (990 JPY with tax).

One of the highlights of the dinner menu is the all-you-can-eat "Focaccia Basket," priced at 300 JPY (330 JPY with tax). Made with a careful blend of durum wheat and finely milled flour drizzled in olive oil, this fluffy loaf is designed to pair perfectly with both food and drinks. The creators focused on achieving a simple yet delightful flavor that guests would want to enjoy every day.

A Toast to Local Spirits

In addition to its delicious food offerings, The City Bakery introduces an extensive selection of drinks that pairs exceptionally well with the grill concept. Featuring a variety of shochu, the menu includes shochu-based highballs and whiskey highballs, alongside a selection of six to eight different wines. This diverse range makes the venue perfect for a casual evening whether guests wish for a quick drink or a filling meal.
