Machida City Launches Campaign to Eradicate Violence Against Women

Campaign Against Violence Towards Women in Machida City

Every year from November 12 to 25, the period is recognized as a campaign to combat violence against women. This initiative addresses serious issues such as domestic violence by partners, sexual crimes, human trafficking, sexual harassment, and stalking. These forms of violence significantly infringe on women's rights and present challenges that must be overcome to create a gender-equal society.

In an effort to raise awareness, the City of Machida will illuminate the city hall and the pedestrian deck in front of JR Machida Station in purple, the symbolic color of this movement, alongside various related events.

Details of the Purple Light Up Events

1. City Hall (Machida City Hall)
- Date & Time: November 19 (Wednesday), from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM

2. JR Machida Station Pedestrian Deck (Deck 1 and Deck 3)
- Date & Time: November 16 (Sunday) to November 25 (Tuesday), from 4:00 PM to 6:00 AM (on November 25, until 11:59 PM)

The purpose of the purple light-up is not only to broadly call for the eradication of all violence against women but also to convey a vital message to victims: "Do not suffer alone; please consult someone first."

Panel Exhibitions

The city will also hold exhibitions to promote the campaign against violence towards women and inform the public about domestic violence prevention initiatives.

2. City Hall, 1st-floor Event Studio
- Date & Time: November 17 (Monday) to November 21 (Friday), from 8:30 AM to 5:00 PM (on November 21, until 3:00 PM)

Additionally, the City of Machida hosts an annual self-defense class for women called WEN-DO. However, enrollment for this year has already closed.
