Comprehensive Study on the 2025 Ofunato City Wildfire



On April 25, 2025, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) revealed that it would provide funding for a major investigation into the wildfire that occurred in Ofunato City in February 2025. This research is particularly important as it aims to uncover the underlying causes of the disaster, especially the extreme dry conditions and strong winds that contributed to the fire's rapid spread across the complex terrain of the region.
