MetaOptics Enhances Semiconductor Industry in Taiwan with New Laser Writer Technology

MetaOptics Expands Operations in Taiwan with Direct Laser Writer

MetaOptics Ltd, a prominent player in the semiconductor optics sector, has recently implemented its innovative Direct Laser Writer system at Pin-Jye Nano Technologies in Taoyuan, Taiwan. This strategic move aims to enhance both prototyping and manufacturing capabilities within the local semiconductor supply network, marking a significant milestone in MetaOptics' global outreach.

The deployment of the Direct Laser Writer is expected to foster accelerated product development by enabling partners to iterate more rapidly, thus streamlining the transition from conceptual designs to market-ready products. The facility in Taoyuan is not merely a manufacturing site but is envisioned as a vital hub for scaling up production and fostering collaborative efforts in the burgeoning metalens sector.

MetaOptics plans to introduce additional Direct Laser Writers and automated testing equipment to boost output and address the rising demand for metalenses. These advanced optical devices are crucial for the burgeoning technology of Co-Packaged Optics (CPO), which is recognized for its potential to transform artificial intelligence infrastructure by replacing traditional copper connections with optical data transmission. Furthermore, the company is developing metalens solutions that enhance the miniaturization of optical receivers and transceivers, allowing for more compact and efficient systems.

Mark Thng, the Executive Chairman and CEO of MetaOptics, highlighted the importance of Taiwan in the global semiconductor landscape. He stated, "Taiwan sits at the heart of the semiconductor world. This deployment brings us closer to our partners and positions us to support them with faster turnaround, better integration, and a pathway to scale."

Aside from enhancing metalens production in Taiwan, MetaOptics is also contemplating establishing a presence in the United States to better cater to essential clients. To facilitate this expansion, the company has procured long-lead components, ensuring the rapid replication of its Direct Laser Writers. The precision of these systems is exemplified by their ability to achieve a minimum line width of just 90nm, which is unparalleled in the current market.

In collaboration with major semiconductor OEMs, MetaOptics envisions advancing its Direct Laser Writer technology to accommodate 12-inch formats with simultaneous multi-lens writing capabilities. This maskless method, when paired with the capability for multi-lens writing, is projected to substantially enhance throughput and pave the way for new scaling opportunities.

These initiatives align with MetaOptics' overarching vision of making metalens technology more accessible. By simplifying the processes involved in designing, testing, and bringing metalenses to fruition, the company is set to make significant contributions to the semiconductor optics field. With the recent delivery of the Direct Laser Writer, MetaOptics anticipates a noticeable increase in revenue for the fiscal year 2025 compared to 2024.
