TOMS and Save the Children: Empowering Kids Through Shoes and Education

TOMS and Save the Children: A Mission to Empower Kids

For nearly twenty years, TOMS has set a precedent with a unique vision that intertwines commerce with compassion. The premise is simple yet profound—each pair of shoes purchased can catalyze change in a child's life. This vision came full circle on November 6 when TOMS collaborated with Save the Children at Monson-Sultana School in Central California, distributing new shoes to K-8 students.

The event was part of TOMS's celebrated One for One™ Days program, which reinforces the brand's initial mission of giving back to those in need. This year, the company revived its iconic giving model with two significant days—June 8 for International Children's Day and August 9 to herald the new school year. During these events, TOMS promised that for every pair sold online, an equal pair would be donated to a child in need. The enthusiastic response from customers made it possible to fulfill this promise last week at Monson-Sultana School.

Becky Kent, TOMS VP of Impact, expressed the significance of customer engagement in this initiative. “Seeing the direct connection between our customers' purchases and the impact we can make together never gets old,” Kent remarked. She elaborated on how customers' participation in the One for One Days initiative transformed individual purchases into substantial community support. As a result, students at Monson-Sultana received shoes that not only provide comfort but also foster a sense of dignity and belonging.

Lucero Chavez Ramirez, California State Director for Save the Children, echoed this sentiment, stating, “When children are equipped with necessities like sturdy shoes, they are empowered to walk confidently towards their full potential.” The shoes received are more than merely protective gear—they symbolize a collective effort to uplift children and support essential services in their lives.

TOMS’s partnership with Save the Children is significant, having donated over 1.3 million pairs of shoes since their collaboration began. This initiative is part of a much larger legacy; since 2006, TOMS has donated over 100 million pairs of shoes globally and contributed more than $200 million in various forms to nonprofits aimed at improving children's lives. TOMS operates on the belief that commerce can coexist with compassion, making every purchase a step towards improving children's education, health, and overall well-being.

Founded in 2006 in Venice Beach, TOMS emerged from the simple, yet revolutionary idea that a single pair of shoes could materialize a global movement for change. From its origin with the Alpargata, TOMS has evolved into a comprehensive lifestyle brand, now offering a wide array of footwear, including sneakers and sandals, focusing not just on style but also on the comfort provided by their signature CloudBound™ technology. The brand is currently available in over 30 countries, appealing to a global audience that values socially conscious purchases.

Through their partnership, TOMS and Save the Children depict a model where collective responsibility can yield meaningful change. As each child dons a new pair of shoes provided through this initiative, it serves as a reminder that compassion extends far beyond mere transactions—it nurtures the seeds for brighter futures.
