Exploring the Power of Narrative at Feebee's Solo Exhibition in Roppongi

Feebee's 'Re Narrative's Plurality' Exhibition

The Chain Museum proudly presents the solo exhibition titled 'Re Narrative's Plurality' by the renowned artist Feebee at Artka Bifunka Paichu, the gallery that combines culinary experiences with art, located in Roppongi. The exhibition will take place from July 4 to August 9, 2025, and is set to explore the profound effects of narratives in our contemporary society post-pandemic.

Feebee’s work focuses on the influential role of narratives in shaping empathy, misunderstandings, solidarity, and division within our communities. Visitors will encounter not only new creations but also the thought-provoking piece, 'The Great Transformation', created in 2020, which delves into the unseen anxieties and structural changes driven by the pandemic.

Exhibition Insights

The exhibition statement emphasizes the concept of narrative, reflecting on how we acquire information through platforms like X and TikTok, and the implications these narratives have in our daily lives. With personal stories shared on social media, narratives have shown their capacity to spark social actions, as evidenced in hashtag movements and support during crises. Yet, the emotional appeal of narratives can lead to misinformation and chaos when context and evidence are stripped away, highlighting the dual-edged nature of narratives in modern society.

Feebee draws from historical anecdotes, notably the story of Tsutsui-zutsumi, where the poet Yusai Hosokawa pacified the anger of Toyotomi Hideyoshi after a servant accidentally broke a valuable tea bowl. By turning a negative event into a positive narrative, Yusai saved a life, demonstrating the power of narrative in a profound context.

In today's digital world, where narratives can quickly amplify miscommunication and unrest, the challenge lies in utilizing narrative power constructively. Feebee reflects on Audrey Tang, a Taiwanese programmer who embraced the philosophy of 'Humor over Rumor' during the pandemic, striving to deliver accurate information with a humorous twist to curb the spread of fake news. This strategic approach mirrors the poetry of Yusai, reshaping narratives to guide emotions towards a more peaceful direction.

Through the lens of plurality, as advocated by Tang, Feebee’s exhibition aims to explore collaborative co-existence among differing opinions and harness the connective power of narratives in an era rife with division.

Opening Reception: On July 5, 2025, from 19:00 to 21:00, a free reception will be held, welcoming all attendees to engage with the art and the artist.

Available for purchase will be selected works exhibited, exclusively through ArtSticker, starting from July 4, 2025, at 17:00 on a first-come, first-served basis.
