During the Mid-Autumn Festival, STARCARES organized a festive celebration known as 'A Full Moon for Every Child,' aimed at providing joy, essential goods, and financial aid to the children and the dedicated staff who care for them.

The Celebration

The festival was a heartwarming gathering held at the SOS Children's Village, located in the Go Vap district. Here, 60 children enjoyed a day filled with festivities that celebrated their strength and resilience. Each child received a thoughtfully curated gift set that included a traditional lantern, cookies, a refillable water bottle, a milk pack, and a coloring kit. The gifts were more than just items; they were symbols of love and acknowledgment, showing the children that they are seen and cherished.

Providing Essentials

Beyond the festivities, STARCARES took practical steps to support the village’s operations by distributing essential supplies. Hygiene products, cleaning materials, and pantry essentials were delivered to assist in the daily lives of the children and staff. Financial contributions were also provided to cover ongoing operating costs, benefiting a total of 213 individuals associated with the village, including house mothers and other supporting staff. This comprehensive approach ensured that not only were the children celebrated, but their fundamental needs were also met.

The Importance of Consistent Support

The SOS Children's Village plays a critical role in the lives of approximately 160 children, who rely on its long-term care and educational programs from infancy to adulthood. With international aid witnessing significant cuts since 2023, operational pressures have mounted, placing the village’s future and the lives of these children at risk. The funding received from STARCARES will help secure essential services, including caregiver salaries and educational support, thus allowing children to focus on learning and growing rather than survival.

Future Plans

STARCARES recognizes that impactful aid should not just be a one-time event; instead, it emphasizes the importance of ongoing commitment. CEO Peter Karsten expressed the aim of STARCARES to create stability in the existing social fabric of the village, emphasizing their support as a means to enable caregivers to plan sustainably for the future. Director Hoang Long remarked, 'Support like this reaches our children in two ways. The essentials and funding ease real pressure on our households, and the celebration itself tells every child here that they are seen and thought of. That matters as much as anything we can put on a shelf.'
