Volunteers of America Collaborates with Dimagi for Community Health Workers
In a significant move to bolster community health services, Volunteers of America (VOA), a leading human services organization, has partnered with Dimagi. This collaboration aims to enhance the Public Health AmeriCorps Community Health Worker (CHW) program, which is crucial for improving health outcomes across the nation.
Dimagi, known for its expertise in public health technology, will provide VOA with its CommCare platform. This globally recognized and user-friendly system is designed to digitize workflows, making it easier for CHWs to serve their communities effectively. Over 20 CHWs, operating in various U.S. states and territories, will utilize this platform to streamline their operations.
The Importance of Community Health Workers
Community Health Workers play a vital role in the public health system. As stated by Cindy Cota, VOA's Vice President of Community Health Innovation, "CHWs are crucial for building healthy communities." Their responsibilities include collecting demographic data, managing patient histories, conducting health assessments, and tracking client progress. By equipping these workers with digital tools, VOA aims to enhance their efficiency and the overall effectiveness of health interventions.
A Transformative Tech Solution
The CommCare platform stands out due to its low-code, cost-effective design, enabling quick implementation—anticipated to take under two months. This user-friendly interface allows CHWs to document interactions seamlessly, monitor health outcomes, and manage follow-ups, all of which are essential for effective community care. Moreover, Dimagi plans to provide a Spanish-language version of the platform, ensuring accessibility for a broader demographic.
Additionally, the platform will integrate with VOA's existing Power BI data visualization tool. This integration is expected to offer valuable insights into the program's performance, enabling data-driven decisions that further enhance health initiatives.
Jonathan Jackson, CEO of Dimagi, expressed enthusiasm about the collaboration, highlighting the impact that properly equipped CHWs can have on community health. "Our goal is to reduce the burden of community care through effective digital solutions," he emphasized.
