Celebrating New Healthcare Advancements: Charles Huang Foundation and USC Arcadia Hospital Unveil State-of-the-Art PACU

New Chapter in Healthcare: Charles Huang Foundation and USC Arcadia Hospital Open New PACU Facility

On April 20, 2026, USC Arcadia Hospital welcomed a new chapter in patient recovery as the Charles Huang Foundation (CHF) joined hospital officials to inaugurate a cutting-edge Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU). This momentous occasion signifies a pivotal advancement in the hospital’s ongoing facility expansion, funded by an extraordinary philanthropic contribution from Dr. Charles Huang, a prominent global entrepreneur and local community member.

A Vision for Enhanced Patient Care

The formal ribbon-cutting ceremony brought together key figures, including Dr. Charles Huang, Founder and Chairman of CHF; Lina Tullberg, CEO of CHF; Ikenna Mmeje, President and CEO of USC Arcadia Hospital; and Sandra Chen Lau, President of the USC-AH Foundation. This significant event follows Dr. Huang's historic gift of $7.5 million in June 2022, which is credited as the largest individual donation in the hospital's 119-year history, aimed at assisting in the construction of both the PACU and a hybrid operating room that is currently in development.

The newly inaugurated PACU features 12 beds dedicated to advancing patient care post-surgery. This facility not only enhances recovery procedures but also optimizes patient monitoring through specialized tools and expert clinical teams trained to address complex medical conditions. Moreover, the PACU serves as the preliminary hub for an upcoming state-of-the-art hybrid operating room, a vital component of the Charles Huang Foundation Hybrid Operating Center, facilitating an integration of traditional surgical methods with advanced, image-guided interventional techniques. This synergy allows for an efficient transition between minimally invasive and open surgeries, all within a single sterile environment.

A Commitment to Local Healthcare

Dr. Huang emphasized his commitment to improving local healthcare services, stating, “We want to do all in our power to help expand needed healthcare services at the local level. With this new center, the hospital will further distinguish itself as a center of excellence and serve our local communities more efficiently and effectively.”

Echoing his sentiments, Ikenna Mmeje highlighted the continued dedication of USC Arcadia Hospital to address the healthcare demands of the San Gabriel Valley, stating, “This significant gift from the Charles Huang Foundation supports USC Arcadia Hospital's continued commitment to meeting the growing healthcare needs of the San Gabriel Valley.”

Sandra Chen Lau echoed this sentiment, noting the profound impact of the foundation’s support, which strengthens the hospital's capacity to deliver advanced surgical care. “After nearly 125 years of caring for patients, these investments reflect USC Arcadia Hospital's commitment to meeting the growing health care needs of the San Gabriel Valley.”

A Legacy of Philanthropy

Dr. Charles Huang's contributions to healthcare stem from a profound dedication to community service. As the founder and chairman of Pasaca Capital Inc., a multi-billion-dollar investment firm, Dr. Huang’s philanthropic efforts reach various healthcare institutions, including the San Francisco Chinese Hospital and UCLA, as well as his alma maters, Wuhan University and the University of Strathclyde.

With this new PACU operational and the hybrid operating room on the horizon, USC Arcadia Hospital is fortified to confront the regional healthcare challenges and provide high-quality medical care well into the future. The new facilities underscore a long-term vision for excellence in patient care, reflecting an ethos of innovation and community commitment.
