Huawei's AI Data Center Solution Unveiled
On May 13, 2025, in Dubai, the Global Data Center Facility Summit 2025 convened under the theme "Powering the Digital Era Forward," drawing over 500 leaders from the smart computing sector. This summit sparked discussions on emerging growth opportunities and pathways for the data center (DC) industry, particularly in the AI domain. A highlight of the event was the introduction of Huawei's cutting-edge AI data center solution, propelling the sector into a new epoch of intelligent computing.
During his keynote address, Charles Yang, Senior Vice President of Huawei and President of Global Marketing, Sales and Services at Huawei Digital Power, emphasized that we are entering a golden era for computational infrastructure. He predicted that the global AI data center capacity would exceed 100 GW by 2028, generating a market worth over $600 billion in the energy infrastructure sector alone.
Yet, as Charles Yang remarked, the evolution of AI-driven data centers faces three significant challenges: enhanced reliability, expedited deployment, and surging energy demand. Looking ahead, Huawei identifies three pivotal trends for the development of AI-enabled data centers:
1.
Enhanced Reliability: By innovating architecture, Huawei aims to improve the reliability of AI data centers. An isolated architecture significantly bolsters system dependability.
2.
Accelerated Construction: Utilizing a modular and prefabricated approach, the Huawei Outdoor PowerPOD employs a fully separated architecture, achieving a power system per container, which drastically shortens time-to-market (TTM).
3.
Improved Energy Efficiency: Through the implementation of green energy solutions and AI-driven optimization, data centers can harness renewable sources directly and enhance overall energy efficiency.
Bob He, Vice President of Huawei Digital Power and President of the Data Center and Critical Power Product Line, also spoke at the summit. His address, entitled "Building a Stable Foundation for the Era of Smart Computing," highlighted that despite rapid development in smart computing centers, challenges remain, including timely delivery, flexible deployment, and low total cost of ownership. In response, Huawei introduced RASTM, foundational principles for constructing AI data centers:
- - Reliability: Ensuring that AI data centers maintain reliability throughout their lifecycle across products, architecture, intelligent management, and professional services is paramount. The SmartLi solution from Huawei features an E2E security line at multiple levels and employs isolated architecture to minimize service impacts from failures.
- - Agility: AI data centers must be agile, allowing components and systems to adapt flexibly to uncertainties in AI-supported services. The Huawei Outdoor PowerPOD, with its fully separated architecture and deeply integrated subsystems, enables deployment by demand and gradual capacity expansion.
- - Sustainability: Power efficiency is increasingly critical for AI data centers. Prioritizing the efficiency of parallel systems over module efficiency, while implementing S-ECO mode at scale, becomes essential. Huawei’s modular UPS5000-H achieves a 97.5% efficiency for a single unit and 97.3% for a parallel system, reaching 99.1% efficiency in S-ECO mode for optimal performance.
With a focus on reliable products, lifecycle services, and professional consulting and design capabilities, Huawei collaborates with partners to build AI data center solutions. This collaboration aims to create intelligent computing centers characterized by swift delivery, cross-domain reliability, optimal total cost of ownership, and high flexibility, thus advancing the digital era.
Additionally, during the summit, Huawei, in partnership with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), supported by Alibaba Cloud, China Mobile Group Design Institute, China Telecom, and China Unicom, released a white paper on the safety of lithium-ion battery usage in data centers. This document outlines seven key aspects to enhance safety in the application of lithium-ion batteries, aiming to inject vigor into the development of a high-reliability and quality-focused data center industry.
Through a commitment to innovation, Huawei Digital Power strives to delve deeper into the data center sector, pushing technological boundaries to deliver top-tier products and solutions that promote robust growth, laying a solid foundation for a smarter world and advancing the digital era.
