Tokyo's Startup Support Initiative: TOKYO SUTEAM
In an effort to bolster startup growth within Tokyo, the Tokyo Metropolitan Government has launched the TOKYO SUTEAM program, aimed at fostering innovation in key sectors such as green technology, energy, and climate change. Recently, Tokyu Land Corporation, along with Shibuya Startups Inc., Entrepreneur Roundtable Accelerator, and Nomura Research Institute, was selected as one of the seven key players from a pool of 50 applicants. As part of this program, selected participants will have the opportunity to collaborate on initiatives that promise significant impacts in environmental sustainability and innovation.
Support for Green Tech Startups
With a commitment of up to 100 million yen in grants, the initiative seeks to support six promising green tech startups from both domestic and international markets. The selected startups will engage in practical experiments and demonstrations around the Shibuya area, taking advantage of various public spaces and Tokyu’s diverse real estate assets, including offices, commercial facilities, hotels, and residential properties. This hands-on approach aims to showcase solutions to pressing environmental challenges, such as clean energy, carbon neutrality, and circular economy practices.
The application period for interested startups is set from November 25, 2025, to February 27, 2026. For applicants, it is essential that they are aligned with current environmental themes, such as sustainable agriculture and food tech, biodiversity, and smart mobility solutions, among others.
Participants will have the chance to be judged in a competition based on their environmental contributions, inviting renowned researchers, business figures, and venture capitalists as judges to foster networking and fundraising opportunities essential for their growth.
Integrative Approach to Urban Development
Tokyu Land Corporation has been at the forefront of urban development in the Shibuya area. The company's innovative approach prioritizes co-creation with startups to enhance area value and create vibrant urban spaces. They have previously supported various startups by providing them with essential spaces and financial backing, and establishing partnerships with private, public, and academic entities.
In addition to this initiative, Tokyu Land Corporation is advancing its support efforts by launching facilities like SAKURA DEEPTECH SHIBUYA, a hub for deep tech startups, and TECH-Tokyo, which is designed to cultivate entrepreneurship. These initiatives will aim to address critical challenges faced by startups, particularly in demonstrating their ideas, gaining exposure, and securing funding.
The Goals of TOKYO SUTEAM
