The Dallas Opera Announces Its 2026/2027 Season

The Dallas Opera (TDO) has officially unveiled its highly anticipated programming for the upcoming 2026/2027 season at the Winspear Opera House. Marking its 69th season, TDO promises an exciting array of performances, featuring four new productions and two family operas that will captivate audiences throughout Dallas.

A Stellar Lineup of Productions

Kicking off the season on October 9, 2026, is Donizetti's whimsical masterpiece, The Elixir of Love. Directed by the renowned Stephen Lawless, this enchanting production is set in post-World War II Italy and features an impressive cast, including British-Iranian soprano Soraya Mafi and legendary Italian baritone Alessandro Corbelli, both making their debut at the venue. Joining them will be Operalia winners Anthony León and Mihai Damian, promising a night filled with beautiful music and engaging storytelling.

Following closely is the North American debut of The Cunning Little Vixen, directed by acclaimed Australian director Barrie Kosky. This vibrant production, which originally premiered with the Bayerische Staatsoper, stars Estonian soprano Mirjam Mesak making her U.S. debut as the charming Vixen, captivating audiences with its rich narrative and striking visuals.

In February 2027, audiences will be treated to Puccini's Turandot, under the skilled baton of Emmanuel Villaume, the Mrs. Eugene McDermott Music Director. This production brings a fresh perspective to the classic opera with a newly crafted ending, featuring music by the Grammy Award® winner Christopher Tin, who is famous for his work on the video game Civilization IV. The libretto for this new section comes from Susan Soon He Stanton, a writer for the celebrated series Succession, making this a must-see event.

Concluding the season is Wagner's heroic tale, Lohengrin, which premieres in March 2027. Directed by Louis Désiré and conducted by Villaume, this production will feature notable talents such as Pavarotti d'Oro winner Saimir Pirgu as Lohengrin and Operalia winner Kathleen O'Mara as Elsa.

Family-Focused Entertainment

The season also highlights efforts to engage younger audiences with family operas. In Fall 2026 and Spring 2027, TDO will present adaptations of The Little Prince, featuring music by Rachel Portman, and The Bremen Town Musicians, enriched with selections from Offenbach, Rossini, Donizetti, Sullivan, and Verdi. These productions promise to be entertaining and educational for families, ensuring that the magic of opera continues to inspire future generations.

Annual Concerts and Special Events

Not to be missed, TDO will also host beloved annual events, including the Linda and Mitch Hart Institute for Women Conductors Showcase Concert and the Robert E. and Jean Ann Titus Family Recital featuring the celebrated soprano Christiane Karg alongside acclaimed pianist Andrew von Oeyen. Additionally, the Lone Star Vocal Competition will return, spotlighting rising talent.

Subscribers can seize this remarkable opportunity to experience all four mainstage operas starting as low as $98. Subscriptions went on sale today, and with such a diverse and thrilling lineup, they are expected to sell out quickly.
